Half-Life 2

If you're a fan of FPSs, Valve, and good stories, and you haven't played this game, you're missing out on an unforgettable experience. Yeah, it's old. Yeah, the graphics suck compared to what today's PC games are capable of. Yeah, the game's old news by now. But none of those things should stop you from an experience you'll never forget. I have but one question- When will Valve learn to count to 3?

Outlast

Likely the scariest horror game I have ever played. Outlast leaves you wondering just where your unnaturally strong psychopathic pursuers will find you next. The cutscenes always left me on edge, especially that one particular encounter with a particular pair of scissors. If you're looking for a good scare or two, turn off the lights and sit down with this game.

PlanetSide 2

If you're a fan of strategic FPS MMOs, this is the best way to go. The game offers huge battles, clans to join, tons of weapons and customizations to unlock, and it's Free to Play. One warning- the game is extremely CPU intensive. If you really want to master this game, you're going to need a very high-end machine to do it, likely with an i7 Processor and at least a upper middle class graphics card.

Pokemon HeartGold / SoulSilver Version

Out of all of the Pokemon main series games, these remakes of Gold and Silver have to be my favorite. The PokeWalker, the ability to walk freely with your Pokemon, the Pokeathelon, all of those things made the game stand out among the others. If only Game Freak would go back and do the same things over in glorious 3D.

Portal 2

You know it's good when they use it in schools.

SIREN: Blood Curse

More unsettling than downright scary, this is another game that's worth taking a look at. It isn't the most popular or the best game on the market, but it offers enough to be a good horror game. If you have the patience to understand the story, this might be worth taking a look at.

Super Mario 64

Do I even need to say anything? Come on guys, it's Super Mario 64!

The Cat Lady

A simple point and click adventure game on the outside, but a deep and disturbing game on the inside. The characters are well thought out, the story really reaches in and pulls out the worst and most horrible truths of humanity, and the game offers multiple endings based on your in-game decisions.

--

The Last of Us

My favorite game of all time. The most realistic representation of an apocalypse I've ever seen. I can relate to the characters, the story is emotional and fluid, incredible soundtrack, and the combat is beyond impressive.

The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series

While not offering as strong of a post-apocalyptic story as The Last of Us, The Walking Dead provides many heart-wrenching moments and introduces many characters you don't want to love because you know they'll be taken away from you in true apocalyptic fashion- but you end up doing it anyway.

The Wolf Among Us

While the idea of a M-rated fairy tale game might not be appealing at first glance, The Wolf Among Us is worth checking out. It's nothing like the stories you think you know- it'll leave you hanging in suspense and thinking very differently of the fairy tale characters you came to know and love as a child.
