I have been playing video games since pong in the 70's. Backwards compatibility is an important issue. NO - everyone that gets a new system should not be expecting to fork over 100's of dollars for Brand New games if you already have a huge library of games that you still play. I cannot even begin to tell you how mad parents were at Sega for not making the games for there systems backwards compatible. Perhaps that is a fact to consider that drove them out of business on top of other other things. Maybe if you stay with your momma and daddy and live above the poverty line you can afford to fork over hundreds dollars. Personally I wouldn't buy the PS3 because it has no games at all worth the price tag. Primarily it is a game system and if you tell me it can't even play the back catalog then I will just be satisfied with my ps2.

I was as upset as a Monkey throwing barrels at a plumber when I got my 360 and it wouldnt play DOOM and serveral of my other XBOX game but now they have added games that I like and it is so much better. I also managed to get another Xbox original system for free which was cool. But I bet they get all this backwards compatible stuff over with by the time Playstation 3 comes out.
