Steam has an ultra-secret tactic that none of the other big players seems to comprehend; they treat their customers like adults. Unless the others can wrap their heads around that incredibly complex concept, they'll never get another dime from me.

There is a hidden message in the text that flashes:

QUOTE

Do you like our latest creation? We certainly hope so! :) You may remember that we sometimes send you guys secret messages like this. It's a great way for us to speak right to you instead of burying ourselves in corporate mumbo jumbo, so let's begin!

First of all--have you noticed all the details in our teaser (Yes, it's a teaser. We'll make a proper trailer in the future)? If you know the Cyberpunk setting, there are some things you can spot, like implants--look for the weapon hands and the real skin -- corporate emblems that should look familiar, and more. Happy hunting!

You're probably curious about the release. It's currently scheduled a way off in 20(14,15,16?) but in truth the delivery date is more like "when it's done". We will release Cyberpunk to you when we're convinced it is nothing but pure, refined, unadulterated awesome. We want it to be the most kick ass futuristic RPG ever-- OK, maybe this sounds pretty bully, but it is our actual goal! You judge if we deliver it!

Oh--And you may wonder why we announced our game so early before the release. The reason is that we're still building our Dev team, so if you are a talented dude or dudette, willing to work in a really different company (gamers rule & boring corporate stuff drools) on a single ambitious project, send us your application right now! careers@cdprojectred.com

So, you want to know what kind of game Cyberpunk 2077 will be? The short description is that it will be a story-heavy, nonlinear, open world RPG based on the well known Cyberpunk pen&paper system and setting. Building open world games is something we are mastering right now, and we believe (misspelled in trailer, heh) that properly joining nonlinear gameplay with an excellent story telling will bring a totally new quality. Hmm.. we'll tell some more about it soon!

And that's not all that's new, we are about to reveal our other project, which is much closer to being completed and yes, it will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story. You can probably guess the game we're talking about - on the 5th of February it will all be clear.

So stay tuned as we will have quite a lot to show and tell you soon!
We are waiting for you on our newly created forum called afterlife--what other name could we have chosen for it? :)

If you are going to charge $60 for a game, it should have great gameplay, story, and graphics.

@WolfGrey @Ushae The minute Steam makes my games playable on Linux, Windows will be removed from my system so fast it might burst into flames.

@superjenius Steambox will be a non-issue for PC gamers. Steam already has a lock on the PC market (for good, reason, IMO) . The purpose of the Seambox will be to bring PC games to the folks that don't want to be bothered keeping a gaming PC. And, to my personal chagrin, most PC games are pretty controller friendly already, so they just have to make it work with existing controllers.

My prediction: the Steambox will be competitively priced with next gen consoles, and it will bring the open-platform nature of the PC game space to the couch crowd. They will love it, and Steam will treat them with respect, which they are not used to.

Why do I respect Steam so much? Because they have made a business model of opening doors for gamers, instead of closing them, like every other major player has tried to do. And Valve takes talented and motivated modders and helps them become successful professional game developers. And Steam helps them and the Indies find customers.

@Shielder7 @PuckOP Actually, several US cable ISPs have been experimenting with bandwidth caps for a while now, and they are itching to impose them on everybody that doesn't pay for the top tier service plans. But let's hope it doesn't catch on here anytime soon.

I have been predicting the death of console gaming at the hand of the PC for a couple of years now, at the risk of ridicule from everyone that thinks they know something about gaming. And I have quietly watched Steam push open doors (e.g. Mac gaming, next up Linux) while the console makers have frantically tried to close them (exclusivity deals, anyone?).

I will not be surprised at all when Steam (and Valve) fly in the face of Microsnot and Phony Studios with a big old "Up yours!" and liberate video games from the artificial captivity that has been imposed on the industry for about 2 decades. And yes, gamers and developers will benefit greatly, and the console makers and big name publishers will see how it should be done.

Easy fix: developers sell games directly to customers via digital downloads, and useless bloated corporate publisher dinosaurs like EA and Sony are relegated to the dust bin of history. Developers get more money, customers pay less, and the environment is given a break (no useless plastic and cardboard boxes being shipped around).

My point is that the heavy weights in the gaming industry, for example EA, Acitivision, Microsoft, Sony, etc., are doing their level best to take more from us (the customers) while giving less, such as on-disk dlc that would just have been part of the game a few years ago. And they are always trying to find new ways to limit what we can do with what we have purchased, whether it be software or hardware. But we customers and the content creators (game developers) could live without the publishers, and I would argue, the console makers, quite comfortably.

In fact, we would be much better off without them; content creators would actually get most of the money we spend on games, and we would get the games at a fair price without malarky like exclusivity deals, needing to belong to "social clubs", commercial censorship, and controls over which games we can play at all. And I feel the same applies to books, music, and other creative works; the big name publishers and distributors no longer serve a valid function, other than to suck revenue from the creator-customer relationship.
