I believe you have to send it through Linear PCM, not bitstream, to get the appropriate uncompressed audio options. (Don't check off bitstream on your PS3 audio options!)

This should solve your problem. Your setup otherwise is perfect for uncompressed TruHD and the other lossless audio formats. Enjoy. I'm getting an Onkyo 876 in the coming week or the Integra 9.9, depending on what surprises my accountant has for me. The Onkyo you have is a great bang for the buck!

Hope that works for you!

This is THE best forum for PS3 hookups to modern day A/V equipment. Great resource. Scroll down to the audio section to see why you shouldn't select bitstream, sir. I'd also make sure for the 605 that you turn off and bypass the video processing options, since it is inferior to what your PS3 can do. Enjoy!

Cheers for this dude, so when you say "i'd also make sure for the 605 that you turn off and bypass the video processing options" i take it you mean connect the ps3 via hdmi to tv and then ps3 optical to av????

Well first off I'm not a huge fan of routing the HDMI through a reciever. If its possible I would highly recommend hooking the HDMI from the PS3 directly to the TV and then run a digital optical cable to the reciever from your PS3 for sound.

eww no thats sad. because you can output higher quality sound through HDMI then you can with digital optical cable. I have a pioneer receiver that i route all my HDMI devices through. I have satelitte, PC, 360, PS3 so its much easier to let the receiver do all the switching.

I understand what your saying but, unless you have a reciever with 7.1 or HD DTS its not going to make a difference. 5.1 or DTS through HDMI or optical is not going to have any difference what so ever. I think the key here is the quality of the reciever. I just personally don't like sending video signals through more than 1 source for many reasons.

My system is a 7.1 system. I've unchecked and checked different boxes on the ps3 no other settings will change it, it must work as other people who have the same system have got it working

I've looked through all the settings on the PS3 audio setup, everything is ticked and the ATTRAC and WMA is enabled

Hi, i'm in dire need of help setting up my PS3 with my Onkyo TX-SR605. I have the following setup, PS3 -> HDMI -> Receiver -> HDMI -> TV

I can watch films via Blu ray which is good and games output great 7.1. However, i don't get any sound when i'm using the XMB. Music (MP3), Trailers i've downloaded via the PSN store, Films i've made using the PS3 Eye camera, all have no sound. I tried to watch 'Friday' the other day on a regular dvd disc and it had no sound either. I don't understand, some normal DVD's don't output sound where some others have. Can anyone please help!!!!!!!

I'm intwo minds about this game. The idea sounds great, also the added online play (although doesn't appeal to me) is a nice feature. I hate a games that when you go to play multiplayer they restrict you some way. For example, xbox 360 online is awful for this. Halo 3, great online game, friendscan come round and be guest profiles and play on same tv. Great fun. However, Gears of war, NO GUESTS ALLOWED. Half life team fortress, No multiplayer on same screen. Sorry i'm going off on one. I'd a least like to have the option to do something on a game and this game does that with the online feature. As the game goes, i may buy this for £20 but no more than that. :P
