They spent way to much on marketing. I would have liked to see how the game would have sold with barely any marketing. The first game was received very well I think it would have sold close to just as much without all the marketing.
@dr_josh: Pretty much. If Gamespot had any sort of credibility they would have mentioned as much but of course they need to tow the line like everyone else.
@NorseLax09: It's going to vary person to person. For a person like me I enjoy movies like this at home where I can participate in other recreational activities to enhance the experience.
@Hagan: There might be a scene where punisher goes to a concert or event and starts blasting MOFOs. We really can't make any judgement cause we have so little information.
@nibbin1191: No one's getting riled up or having an argument. I just disagree with you and provided several sources for why. Not to mention the fact that several gaming websites have already established that PUBG has no case here. Even PUBG themselves said that they didn't like Epic saying the game was inspired by PUBG which is ok to do. Mentioning another company inspired you during a promo ad is not against the law.
Damn man thanks for calling me kid. I hate getting older feels good. You can claim it's inspired by in official PR there is nothing wrong with this. Pillars of Eternity did the same thing with Baulders Gate.
It's not really subjective. Anybody would say these games are similar and almost the exact same. The only people who wouldn't agree with that are people who have some sort of bias towards PUBG.
People from PUBG could in theory do and say a lot of things all that matters is what can you prove in court? Can they prove that this game wasn't inspired by PUBG? No cause that's damn near impossible to prove. Can they prove PUBG is nothing like Fortnite? No in fact they would lose that argument almost immediately once the evidence started coming in. So they can say, claim, and do a lot of things but when it goes to court all the statements and stuff is thrown out the window and the evidence\facts are all that matter.
Easy solution is to do it and let some small company make empty threats that will only leave them losing money if they attempt to take it to court. Pillars got me interested in their game by name dropping baulders gate so I disagree with your comment about what you do or dont do. Also seems like the law disagress as well.
Remember the coke and pepsi challenge? Yea looks like they also broke your golden rule.
@nibbin1191: In this article: https://www.polygon.com/2017/9/25/16360568/pubg-fortnite-lawsuit-rip-off
It specifically says that they said inspired in the trailer. I have hard time seeing anything come of this. Also I found this about mentioning competitors in advertising:
In general, it is not illegal to compare yourself to your competitor in the advertising context, so long it is not untruthful, disparaging, misleading, or confusing to the public. Additionally, the use of a competitor’s trademark cannot lead the public to believe that the company is endorsing you
Seems like the general knowledge you so claim this is, is just flat out wrong.
