No, in DW4, your weapon gain power through Experience Points. You get those Points by defeating enemy officers.
Your weapon evolves (changes look) at each 3 levels (ie, Weapon 1 is level 1 to 3; Weapon 2 is level 3 to 6; Weapon 3 is 6 to 9; and Weapon 4 is level 10, which is the unlockable.)

Me Too . I use Tiger Amulet with officer who is strong with defence and have weak attack , and Tortoise Amulet For officer weak deffence and have Strong attack . as brdman said it depends on the officer (For ME).
