@Thanatos2k: Have you ever played a Chris Roberts game?
If not, he was ALWAYS the guy pushing the envelope of what was possible on a PC. Cannot tell you how many early PC upgrades I purchased just to play the Wing Commander series.
Assets mean a lot to him.
On the game play side, yes, it would be better to work out mechanics and then work on assets. In this case, they are being developed in parallel due to the complexity of what's being attempted.
@deviltaz35: As far as I know, a console release for SQ42 was teased but never committed. I don't recall a console release even being teased for the MMO - Star Citizen.
As for "so many" head over to CIG's forums and you'll see there are lots of vocal supporters. And, lets not forget they are throwing money at this...still. $1.4M USD in Week No. 34.
Sadly, despite what appears to be a tremendous effort to "get it right," I am betting they get skewered by the media and people who are unhappy with how Mexican culture is portrayed.
@deviltaz35: Not very many questions about where the money goes from inside the community. Folks, rightly or wrongly, have put this game's development on par with GTA V. If stories are to be believed GTA took roughly 5 years and $150M. Folks comfort themselves with this fact along with the idea that CIG is developing two games the MMO (Star Citizen) and the single player game (Squadron 42).
Personally, I am a bit surprised they haven't given us SQ42 yet.
@obiken: All fair points. What's happened since 2012-2014 is stupid amounts of $$$, which has lead to the pursuit of perfection. Chris Roberts was originally expecting a fraction, I recall the number $20M, of the money he's current got at his disposal.
@dujubear: Yes. A great many people have put princely sums of money into this effort, which is actually 2 games the MMO and a single player game, and don't want to admit defeat...even weakness.
@deviltaz35: Hard to say. Chris Roberts was already pretty well off from his prior game and film efforts, though it is hard to be sure if he made money in movies. As for the others, folks have come and gone, like any normal work place. They do, supposedly, have a pretty sweet office the LA area...Santa Monica, I think.
