IMHO, people who haven't read Heart of Darkness can't/couldn't enjoy Far Cry 2 to its maximum. The Jackal is Kurtz, with his long speeches and knowledge about war. The jungle madness portrayed as war madness all a metaphor to our willingness to leave our rationality once in an extreme situation.
I'm a sucker for Far Cry 2. I believe I'm the only person on this planet who says "this is my favorite game". I've finished it 7 times. Found all the diamonds (and I hate collectibles), got all the achievements (and I hate achievements) did all the missions and I have a copy for the PS3 and the PC. I get sad every time I hear someone saying something negative about it, I feel the person wasn't open for the experience or just didn't want to have fun. People complained about the long travels in the jungle while I think it's the most fun thing in the game. I liked to pretend I'm in the jungle, really there, and one wrong movement would get me killed. My girlfriend was always like "it's just a game". I would stop in the middle of the jungle and start eating on the couch, pretending was eating soldier food. It all sounds very nerdy, but it was really one of my life's experience. A 30 old man playing war with a game, with a girlfriend on his side, funny scene to look at. I've never immersed myself in a game like this and I am the type of gamer that can be called hardcore.
My tips to whomever didn't like the game: put on Hardcore difficulty and mute the music. Buy the camo suit and invest in silenced weapons. Instead of trying to kill everyone in a camp, try sneaking in at night and just kill the necessary. Really, my favorite missions were the one in which I killed only one target with a silenced pistol.
Feel like a shadow at night. Feel like an assassin. Experience the madness of war. This is what Far Cry 2 was for me.

@hitomo Are you totally nuts? Crazy? Fruit case?? When PC gaming was not king?? Just the best graphics, best gameplay, best games (Total War, Civilization), the largest library of games, generation immunity, option of choosing controller or keyboard/mouse, cheaper games not to mention (and destroy consoles) modding community.
As a console owner, I've always known that the true platform of gaming is PC, the platform where gaming was born, where games are made and where gaming will always exist. Don't join the troll/ignorant (no offenses to you, buddy, respect) bandwagon by saying "this could bring PC gaming back to the top", it's always been king.
I personally think that none of you KIDS understood. This is Gamespot's way to end Feedbackula. And they should. Not because of the show itself, it's useless but kinda funny. If your favorite didn't get the score you WANTED then go to a shrink and do some therapy!
Gamespot knows that other sites will be handing out 10s with ease because it draws virgin kids who want to see their favorite game getting the score they wanted. So Gamespot is more cautious and strict with the reviews, point out things that most gamers and reviewers overlook. That's a good thing. Look back to the old games' score. Tomb Raider 1 is a timeless classic and Gamespot gave it not even a 9. It was fine back then, why can't it be now?
So sick of these kiddies and teenagers ruining comments and the gaming community. GTA is NOT a perfect game, never was. GTA 4 was extremely flawed, but still a great game. But they've never truly evolved. It's more 3rd person action, social sattire, radios, etc. This series need a true reboot now, a different approach.
I, personally, agree with the reviewer. I'm 30 and I have a lot of women in my life, friends, family and sexual partners. After a while, I started to get pissed off of seeing women being portrayed always the same way. Look at Tomb Raider again. The reboot took that overconfident Lara and turned her into a REAL WOMAN, one that attracts you more because of her insights and personality than her body. Women are not all bitches, all slutty, all money-grabing and I don't expect you kids to understand this, but a game like this is saying to all over the world and to kids who get their hands on this game that they are! So, it's more than correct to take point because of this.
Gamespot need new policy regarding comments. No more swearing, start being strict about age, no "franchise team". I don't know, something must be done.
ANOTHER TAKE: On the other hand, maybe they shouldn't be sooo sensitive about the comments. It is just comments. Let them swear if they want, sometimes they're are just mad with their parents and they need to vent somehow. If they are spoiled angry brats, let them be, they're gonna grow up someday.

WHO CARES if you think that, (probably without playing this game) just because you liked it it deserves this or that. She's a professional reviewer. You probably just play games, and probably not enough games to be a reviewer. The is 9, that's it. It's not a stain on GTA's canon. My favorite game is the Metro franchise, I think it deserves much more than websites are giving it, but I don't go out shouting this, because I am old enough to know that having a 9 ou an 8 or a 0 is not a demerit to take into account, just a guideline to whoever wants to buy it or know it. Grow up and stop whining just because YOU THINK it deserves a certain score and just because your virgin kid nerdy ass LIKED IT.
