Fallout 4 was a good game but it was a terrible fallout game. The flaws are too many to list but I'll just post my major gripes.

1. Build choices don't matter: They neutered all sense of build choice in this game because there is no level cap meaning you have to artificially limit yourself in order to not over level. The level cap should have been capped at 50. That's the sweet spot for this game before it starts going down hill and you start becoming less what you set out to be and more of a master of every skill. They made this same mistake with Skyrim and I don't wish to see it return in the next TES game.

2. Settlement Building: This was a terrible inclusion into the game. I wouldn't have minded it if it was well made but it has to be THE clunkiest build system I have ever worked with and requires heavy modding to fix. It was slow, finicky, clunky, archaic, and the first person only camera view was the icing on that terrible cake. This part of the game screams of a rush job shoehorned into the game at the last minute and it shows in everything you try to do. I'd go so far as to say that they detracted precious resources from the rest of the game to put into base building likely because they say dollar signs in it with paid DLC. Which brings me to my 3rd and most important gripe.

3. The game world felt unfinished: This game was not finished and not by a long shot. Too many assets in the game were left pretty much unused. The Combat Zone, The Race Track near the beach, those weird Dolphin mutants, none of that was fleshed out. Pretty much the entire game is point A to point B and everything in between tries to kill you and when you get here something else tries to kill you. The Combat Zone for example was a missed opportunity for further story and world building. When I first walked in and saw that cage and Cate fighting I watched for awhile until she finishes the Raider off. Then the announcer tells me to come on down, I go and the raiders proceed to try and waste me. I restarted 4 times thinking I did something wrong but no, I was just supposed to kill everything. They could have turned that into a gladiatorial combat arena where you could bet caps or fight in the cage yourself for caps working your way up to unlocking Cate who is one of the more useful companions. Its the little things that kill and the little things killed this game for me. Which bring me to my next gripe.

4. Weapons, Armor, and Enemy choice: This game had THE weakest weapon selection, armor selection, and enemy selection of every single Fallout game. They took a major step forward with the combat system but 3 steps back when it comes to choice and enemy selection. The enemies in Fallout 3 and NV were varied and each had a distinctive flavor and personality. The only enemies in 4 that felt semi-unique were the Triggermen and the Gunners. And I only enjoyed fighting the gunners because they dropped the best weapons. But that was a problem because weapons and armor in this game is just as limited as Skyrim's without mods. I'd wager half my mods in this game is weapon and armor based to add some flavor and spice to the game.

5. Faction choices are horrible: The faction choices in this game were so linear that they might as well have put the game on rails. The Minutemen were entirely pointless after you finished the Castle mission until the very end. They were so pointless in fact that they primarily exist as the contingency faction. I mean contingency as in they exist just in case you ruined relations with every other faction you'll still have a way to complete the main quest. The Brotherhood was equally boring and their justification to going to the Commonwealth was just plain stupid nor was it fleshed out why they viewed Synths as an abomination so dangerous that they need to commit mass genocide just get rid of them. They obviously had previous contact with them so did a Synth try to infiltrate the Brotherhood? Did they assassinate a high ranking official? Did they plow Maxson's mom? We don't know. Things like break immersion. And immersion brings me to my last gripe.

6. Voiced Protagonist: Probably one of the worst decisions they made. This was immersion breaking in its entirety. This limited choice in dialog and neutered the purpose SPECIAL points had on conversation. No matter your stats its always Yes, No(Yes reluctantly), No, Maybe meaning later, Yes in a sarcastic way, Yes in a douchy way, and 1 dialog tree opened up by Charisma which is otherwise totally useless unless you actually invest in building settlements. I could have forgiven having Voice Overs if Bethesda was so freaking lazy about it. 1 voice for females, 1 for male was a horrible idea. There should have been at least 4 choices for Black, White, Asian, and Hispanic. Especially when they have those voices in the game. I'm Black. My character is a Black, grizzled war Veteran along the lines of looks of Fred Williamson. Why does he sound like the guy who does my taxes? I would have been in love with the idea of them using Father Clements voice. But nope.

Netflix has some good original content but the price is becoming less and less justified. As time goes on I realize I spend more time wading thorugh turds then actually watching movies. Too much B-Grade nonsense throwaways and not enough good content. If they want more money I demand they start using it to get a better selection. If by next year they dont drastically improve their content then Im just going to drop the service.
