@Evil_Saluki: No, it was more of an epiphany I had.

I was playing Destiny, of all things, and realized what I was doing. Iron Banner, but for what reason? I don't mind the multiplayer experience... They just shouldn't make it the main focus of a game. There are so many games coming out that are online only, or multiplayer only...

Why? Why do we need this? Where are all of my great single player games... without the general "join a team to do this mission" crap?

Like what Assassin's Creed used to be. ESO was a step in the wrong direction. SWTOR was a step in the wrong direction. Destiny was a step in the wrong direction (since, at this point, all it's being used for is some sort of time waster/extender so they won't have to keep making new games.)

Games where you get punished for not having tons and tons of friends that play online all the time.

I'm starting to feel the absence of Mass Effect from my life, (the great single player feel and a decent story.... I liked the ending of it.) Halo is alright in this aspect. A story mode single player focus with multiplayer to play once you've beaten the main game.

I love my books. I really do. Video games were the fries to my burgers. The Doctor to my Who. Star to my wars. The Sherlock to my Watson.

I can go on.

What they never were was some online only experience that was forcing itself down my throat with promises of a rank up or better gear. Sure, I get that people like to be competitive... But I've only ever used games as an escape from reality... The same as books.

Seems people have forgotten what gaming was supposed to be.

I'd say that as long as it means something to you, and has no numbers in it or "||X||asinine-gamertag||X||" you'll be fine.

I've had Ossiss for longer than I like to remember. Never once have I ever thought of changing it.

I've been gaming my whole life. From the NES to the most recent consoles. I remember when games were fun, yet challenging.

Instead, we get obligation to our games.

Do these quests in multiplayer to get a chance at getting more stuff!

Play this very specific variant of multiplayer to raise your rank, all while completing these arbitrary quests, to buy some stuff using in game currency!

Rank up in our online games to unlock more stuff! Once you reach a certain level, you can reset it back to the beginning for no apparent reason!

Play through this 30+ minute game for arbitrary points, all while you pay us money to buy more characters!

How is this fun? Why do we, as a culture, allow asinine game companies to do these things to us?

Star Wars Battlefront is an online only game. No couch multiplayer. No single player. No split screen multiplayer. Everything that made Battlefront 1 and 2 great...

It has completely deviated from what the first two games played like...

It's just a cash in for the company that "made" it.

A shiny piece of shovelware with a fancy coat and a Star Wars sticker on it.... And yet it will sell to the gamers who don't know any better... Ask yourself: Why is it this way?

We've completely forgotten what quality is supposed to be. We have begun to care too much about "HD 1080p 60fps" and other such tripe. Where the game developers, who love games like us, spend hours upon hours working on these games.... Not because they are just trying to get a pay check, but because they love the things they are working on.

When single player experiences came first. When online multiplayer became the last thing that was worked on.

When game companies were these grand things that we all loved... Who made us games that they worked so hard on, hoping we'd like them.

Where has my fun gone?
