A year head start yet it took 10 years for the PS3 to catch up selling in all 3 regions while the 360 sold in 2 out of the 3. Does that sound like winning to anyone?

Respectively the 360 did really well, the PS3 is an excellent Blu Ray player with a handful of excellent exclusives.

If i were to declare a winner, the 360 offered the better gaming experience, the PS3 offered the better all around entertainment device, Sony achieved what they wanted it to be and that was a multimedia device not just a gaming device.
