@kdosda_hegen: I'm not saying you should change your opinion, what I'm saying is reassess your critique as it is objectively flawed.

Whose critique isn't flawed? I mean no one has perfect citique. It's possible to nitpick to anyone's critique.

From that list I can probably judge your taste on movies. Seems you are not into drama and slower paced movies. Not every movie is a tearjerker like Shawshank Redemption but, it got its own strength. Thanks for the short review, enjoyed the read.

You're right and wrong. Yes I do not like slow movies, but I'm very into dramas, just it happens that most dramas from IMDB's top 250 list are slow paced.

Nice list OP, thanks for taking the time and effort to post it.

I would say though that for me Alien is a 10/10 and Aliens is a 9/10. Also would have given 2001: A Space Odyssey some more love, while in my opinion Braveheart does not deserve a 10/10. It's just far too historically inaccurate.

Why does everyone keep telling me that Braveheart isn't that great, because it's historicaly inaccurate? Was the movie ever promoted as historicaly accurate? I checked posters/trailers and some interviews and NOWHERE found the movie to be promoted as historicaly accurate. Even in wikipedia it says "fictionaly based". Just because it portays real people or historical events doesn't mean it has to be historical accurate. Many movies did similary to Braveheart like 300, Pocahontas, The Mummy and many many more, yet everyone picks on Braveheart... I don't get it.

As mentioned before, I don't care if movie is based on true story or not. I rate movies by entertainment/plot/characters/morals. If I don't "find" any of such things in a movie, I don't like it. What is entertaining, what characters/morals do you like is different for each person. Also just because I didn't change my opinion though I learned new facts on one movie, doesn't mean I don't change my opinion on other movies. E.g. I used to love The Shining to death, but after reading about how book differs it really affected y opinion on the movie. It downgraded to me.

I'm very surprised that as a horror fan you gave The Thing and The Exorcist only a 7 each. What other horror movies do you rate 10 despite Alien?

Glad you liked One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest. Also it's interresting seing you wanting Mulholland Drive to be on the list while you gave Donnie Darko only 5. I personaly hate both to death, and find them very similar. What you liked about Mulholand and what didn't about Donnie Darko?

Along all these great movies it's sad to see Marvel films on the list. The same goes for Tarantino films. Except for maybe Pulp Fiction.

I'm not sure why you fault 3 Billboards for it's open-ended ending and then give a ten for Inception. I think both endings are similar and I actually like 3 Billboards ending at least as much. Some people I saw it with did not like 3 because of the ending.

I'm also a bit letdown to see you didn't like Seven Samurai so much but at least you liked Stalker, so that's good. Urge you to check out Roshomon and possibly Ikiru, though you might find it overlong. It was also nice to see you liked A Clockwork Orange a lot.

Thanks for response!

What do you mean it's sad to see Marvel/Tarantino movies on the list? I have put ALL movies I've seen, like them or not I must have included them.

The "problem" with 3 Billboards ending is that I really wanted Mildred to meet the "rapist" and see her face expression, when she finds out it's the same guy who enterred her shop and broke a souvenir. The ending we got is really good by all means, but I really really wanted it to end when they meet and then you'd have and open ended ending, as will she kill him or will she not.

I see you don't really understand my raring system. For ordinary person 6 is for "okay" and 7 for "good", but for me 6 is good and 7 is great. I gave Seven Samurai a 7 which means I really like it. In other words I recommend to watch it, but it's not a must watch movie for me.

I was thinking about checking out Roshomon and Ikiru before, I just hadn't come to them yet. I'll probably watch them in upcoming 2 years or so.

As for OP's list, I think it's a pretty good list overall. One issue I do have, though, is giving 10/10 to Inception for being "unique" and then 0/10 to Lion King for ripping-off the anime Kimba the White Lion. Actually, Inception and Lion King are both anime rip-offs. Inception borrowed heavily from an anime movie, Paprika, which had a lot of similar themes, plot elements, characters and scenes lifted. However, The Lion King is definitely a much bigger rip-off. Inception does enough to distinguish itself from its obvious inspiration, unlike The Lion King.

Thanks for response!

Just saw your list, glad you liked many same films as me (Braveheart, Shawshank Redemption etc.) You should check Once Upon a Time in America as you liked Godfather, I think they are extremely similar movies.

As I have seen both Inception and Paprika, and I love both. I accually find barely anything in common, to me Inception is about changing person's memories while dreaming and Paprika is about drowning yourself in dreams/ live in dreams. To me both are very different movies. I mean obviously Inception is inspired and similar, but I would never consider it a rip-off. Also Lion King being a rip-off is only a slight issue, the biggest issue is the story and annoyng songs.

The Exorcist is also my favourite horror film, followed by Poltergeist (original, the remake was not very good). South Koreanā€™s make some good horror films such as A Tale of Two Sisters and Thirst.

However, Fight Club is not about fighting or mental illness, itā€™s a film about capitalism and consumerism.

I have not seen the film in over a decade, but I remember the scene when they look at Calvin Klein underpants. You donā€™t need branded underwear to be a man. Also Norton kept buying stuff off Ikea, and Pitt tells him, ā€œwhat you own ends up owning youā€. Also the rundown building that Norton moves into after Pitt blows up Nortonā€™s condo. If you have time, I would recommend reading Karl Marx if you have not read it then you can see the film in a different light.

In my opinion, Schindlers List is an important film. It is beautifully made and I think everyone should watch it to understand the pain, sadness and pointlessness of war/invasions.

I did not like the Departed, you really should watch the original Hong Kong version which is so much better. Instead of texting, the undercover cop uses Morse code to communicate with the head quarters. Itā€™s also a trilogy. If you have not seen it, itā€™s called Infernal Affairs.

Since I am talking about recommendations, I recently watch a Chinese film called, ā€œComing Homeā€, directed by Zheng Yomou itā€™s free on YouTube well worth a watch if you have time. Its in Mandarin with English subtitles and I think anyone can relate to the subject matter.

Going back to Schindlerā€™s List, across the other side of earth, the Japanese invaded China and the book/film The Rape of Nanjing depicts the atrocities very well.

I did not see any Spanish films on the list but, ā€œAll About my Motherā€, is very good and also worth watching.

Also thanks for your list, I am in China at the moment and I just subscribed to Youku so I will check out some of the films I have not seen on your list.

Thanks for response!

Yes, I love Poltergeist too, one of best horror movies.

I'll be honest and tell, that I will never read the book. I mean if I manage to read the book, it's only from the movies I love, like Clive Barker's Hellraiser movie and book. As I did not like Fight Club, I don't think it's worth sparing time for the book.

About Shindler's list. I rate movies by entertainment not by importance of history/true event. If I had to rate it by historical importance I'd give it a 10.

I have seen Infernal affair (only first one), I have to dissapoint tou that I like The Departed a lot more. Main because of cast (Jack Nicholson) and ending. But Korean version was also a pretty good movie to me.

Thanks for reccomendation I'll give it a try someday.

You haven't seen any Spanish films, because my favourites are not on imdb top 250 list. Best Spanish films I can think of are The Body, The Invisible Guest and Mirage. All made by same director Oriol Paulo, which is my favourite director.

Coolio blog yo.

Did you know Grave of the Fireflies is based on real-life events? I guess you did not know.

No I did not knew that. It does change nothing. As mentioned before I rate movies by entertainment, not by historical importance/accuracy. It makes me wonder even more then, why boy didn't buy any food when he could...

Before the start I'll mention a few things

I've seen a lot of movies in my life and became kind of picky, that's why I rarely give high score to a movie. A lot of titles I rated low, I used to like when I was a kid/teen, but in time I had to lower the score, because after watching many movies, some downgrade.

I post this, because I want to hear your thoughts on my opinions. Hope your answers are honest, hope you even post critisism on me if you have any. I'd also appriciate movie recommendations, judged by my other movie ratings if you think I'd like your movie, feel free to recommend it. I MIGHT watch it and respond with my opinion on it.

As you'll see I've probably rated a lot of movies you love low, just saying it's my opinion, so you shouldn't take my low ratings to heart.

I'll try to write as short and as concrete as possible on each movie. Some opinions will look not enough info or without any arguments at all. Lots of opinions will even use same and same words or sentences. Later I became so lazy and tired wrting this I just ran out of wring skills and probably gave worst possible reviews/opinions. I even put a wooden joke there and there. If you want to hear more information about a movie just ask.

My ratings are: 10 Masterpiece, 9 amazing or masterpiece with one or few minor flaws, 8 awesome, 7 great, 6 good(worth watching), 5 mediocre, 4 mediocre, kind of bad, but not too bad(didn't waste time), 3 terrible(wasted time, regret watching), 2 horrible, 1 abysmal, 0 unwatchable, burn it, burn all copies of it.

Also I have my personal lists for Favourite movies/anime movies/animated movies. If movie is one one of such lists I write it's place in it

Some opinions will include spoilers, some will not, read each description at your own risk.

list only contains movies I've seen, duh!

This is my very first Gamespot post, so point out any stupid mistakes, if I did any. Also my English is probably weird, just get used to it, cause it's not my native language bla bla bla, you know.

My friend always told me to post my opinion of anything online, so here I finnaly did it.

IMDB top number/movie title:

The Shawshank Redemption

One of the best movies I've ever seen. It's all about great characters and well written story. Not sure what else to say, many will agree.

10/10. 11th my favourite movie.

2. The Godfather

It would be amazing, but it's really overlong (3h). The whole first hour is what I describe as intro of this movie. Other movies would do a 10-30min, but not Godfather, it's just simply overlong to me. Would have cut a lot of it, 2,5h would have been perfect. On the other hand this movie has iconic soundtrack, great character developent, great twists and just tons of memorable epic scenes.

9/10

3. The Godfather: Part II

Okay, this one surprised me, in a bad way. Everything I loved about the first one is now gone or redone again in much worse way. And it's even longer than the first movie... Al Pacino's character become very unlikable for me. Also the whole backstory of Vito Corleone is so ordinary and boring to me - was poor, killed mafia boss, become mafia boss (somehow)... There not a single interresting scene in this movie. Also ending is totally a rip-off off the first movie, just much worse and lazier. At least 3rd movie is much more like original than this one

0/10 (sorry if made you angry, my opinion only)

4. The Dark Knight

Amazing. It's dark, funny, serious, dark, funny and serious. Joker is possibly the best villain of Batman movies and Heath Legder was amazing portraying him. Anyway it's full of practical effects action scenes, which are amazing too. The only let down this movie has is the final fight between Joker and Batman, I thought it was lame... Joker let the dogs out and was kicking Batman while he was down, seemed like a parody to me.

9/10

5. 12 Angry Men

One of the best movies of all time. All characters and actors' performances were amazing. You can theorize this movie to death. like Was the accused the killer or was he not. Or maybe one of the Jurors were the killer. I love this movie to death

10/10. 5th my favourite movie.

6. Schindler's List

Not much to say about this one. It's a real story about Oscar who spent all his money and saved a lot of jews. Ralph Fiennes was amazing. But it's not really anything special of a movie.

6/10

8. Pulp Fiction

It's weird movie. The whole suitcase concept I think is stupid. I'm probably the only one who thinks that Bruce Willis is the star of this movie. There are lots of unessesary scenes which I don't think are must include. The two scenes I love to death are there Bruce Willis visits his apartment, finds a gun and wait for Travolta to stop pooping before he shoots him, and the rape scene, of course. These two scenes are amazing, but there also many pretty cool other scenes. Overall I like it, even though it's very weird.

7/10

9. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Classic western movie, really overlong, there are way too much teasing scenes. Also to me characters are way not as good and likable as everyone else says. There are better western movies, though this one's very memorable, because of the really good adventure characters been though.

7/10

10. Fight Club

Really stupid movie, I barely understand why people love this so much. I mean it has spectacular special effects, but plot is crap and full of plotholes, like how could anyone followed a man who has a mental disability distortion, how does shooting youself in the neck kills you 2nd personality? and many many more other problems this movie's plot has.

3/10

12. Forrest Gump

It's classic, but nothing spectacular. It's a drama about a person's life. How a "stupid" person can succeed in life as much as any other could. I must admit the Kennedy scene was epic

6/10

13. Avengers: Endgame

Seriously? Well, I'll start with that I'm not a superhero fan, the whole concept is pretty average to me. Yet Marven makes same movies everyear and yeat people keep loving them more and more, similar to apple products. Anyway not judging, but I don't get the hype. Anyway about Endgame itself - I like the whole timetravel thing, going to previous movies was pretty good, though could've been better. Jokes are kindergarden level, even 1st graders make better jokes than Marvel. They ruined Thor and Hulk for me, screw marvel for that. Hulk is not a beast anymore and Thor is fat drunk now... Also Fortnite commercial... The fights scenes, the battle between superheroes and Thano's army is meh as it's happenning very fast, but battle against Thanos himself is really good, but way too short... Of course most good guys are brought back to life and all villains die, how ordinary, as in any other marvel movie. I'll admit even though i've seen very few superhero movies this one is one of the better. But nr 13 imdb top 250 is just so lame, I don't even care about lame movies' high ratings anymore. I've seen too much of this so don't even care if next Marvel movie will be nr 1 imdb movie... That's how bad the system is. Comics>movies

7/10

14./23./80. Star wars 4/5/6. To me Star Wars and similar movies are lame average adventure movies. I know that special effects were way before it's time, but I admire plot/characters/meaning/morals much more than effects. I think they all are same. Not sure why people rate some better than others. To me movies like John Carter are absolutely same quality, yet they are rated much lower, for some reason.

4/10

15. Inception

Amazing. It's a bit more complicated than your average movie. It's awesome. Tons of practical effects and great action too. Plot is very unique though the whole concept of dream within a dream is kind of stupid and illogical. Ending is good, but people make an elephant out of it, though it's only great ending.

10/10

17. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

It's a heartbreaking movie about friendship and rebellion against authority. Everyscene is either entertaining at worst or iconic and memorable to death. Great cast, great villains. Jack Nicholson is one of the best actors of all time.

10/10 10th my favourite movie.

18. Goodfellas

Ordinary gangster life movie. Similar to Godfather, but far not as good or entertaining.

5/10

19. The Matrix

Best Sci-Fi movie ever made. It's also one of the best action movies ever made too at the same time. The plot is very unique and well thought out (exept for a plot hole where Cypher somehow gets in and not noticed talks with Smith). This movie is so iconic, that many many many movies have ripped-off or parodied scenes from Matrix.

10/10 13th my favourite movie.

20. Seven Samurai

Classic movie about samurais who defended a poor village from bandits. It's really iconic, though there are a lot of similar movies.

7/10

21. Se7en

Average detective movie to me. Not sure why others find it special. Also the twist is spoiled by Kevin Spacey 5 minutes before, when he says that he has a surprise for them...

5/10

22. City of God

Great story about the people' life in Brazil. Very realistic and detailed. Ending is amazing

8/10

24. The Silence of the Lambs

A bit better than average detective movie. Anthony Hopkins/doctor Lecter is amazing, but else it's nothing special of a movie.

6/10

25. It's a Wonderful Life

Best family movie ever made. It's iconic classic, it's plot has been parodied billion times. James Stewart is one of the best actors ever

10/10 24th my favourite movie

26. Life Is Beautiful

Amazing movie. It is a comedy about the most brutal and disgusting time in history - holocaust. It's funny and very serious at the same time, it's tone swithing is very well done. Yet they had to ruin it by the end. It's really one of the movies there all 3 main characters should have survived, it would've been perfect family movie then.

9/10 Honorable mention of my favourite movies

27. Spirited Away

One of the best anime movies I've ever seen, yet there are a few much better in my opinion.

10/10 11th my favourite anime movie

28. Saving Private Ryan

Great action war movie. Very great story. Yet it sucks that captain dies.

8/10

29. The Usual Suspects

Average thriller movie to me. Twist is also very casual, seen billion times before and after, no surprise feeling at all.

4/10

30. LĆ©on: The Professional

Fantastic movie about friendship between girl and and assassin. Action scenes are amazing, ending is badass.

10/10 honorable mention of my favourite movies

31. The Green Mile

Masterpiece. Tom Hanks is amazing. It's really depressing movie accually. Not all stories end happy

10/10 28th my favourite movie

33. Psycho

One of the oldest and yet awesome thrillers ever made

8/10

34. American History X

Pretty much any movie about racism is a masterpiece. I really love these bad person turns good movies.

10/10 honorable mention of my favourite movies

40. The Intouchables

It's charming movie, nothing special, but it's really entertaining and fun drama

8/10

41. The Departed

Pretty good cop drama. Again, Jack Nicholson is the star here.

7/10

42. Back to the Future

It's really cringe movie. Everything is emberrassing in it. it's very silly and it knows it. But it's not a bad thing at all, it's very entertaining. Characters are iconic.

8/10

43. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

I don't know. It has lots of epic scenes, but most of the movie is in ugly blue filter also John Connor is a little brat. T1/T3 much better than this though T1000 is the best villain of the franchise. it would still be pretty awesome movie, but The thing I hate is that Arnold doesn't kill any human, I know it's part of the plot and it sucks bad. the part there he fires minigun, but doesn't kill anyone is ultra lame.

6/10

44. Whiplash

I love J.K. Simmons performance. It's pretty good movie, but that's about it.

6/10

45. The Lion King

Oh man, I hate this one. First it's a rip-off off another movie which is not known at all , it's a shame Disney got all the fame... Secondy, the plot is crap, it's full of annoying songs too.

0/10

46. Rear Window

Average thriller. I know it must've been amazing at it's time, but I never add points for nostalgia or being amazing for it's time.

5/10

48. Gladiator

Great Braveheart rip-off, though far not as good.

8/10

49. The Prestige

It's very weird. It's really stupid and smart movie at the same time. The worst thing is the two Christian Bales twist, the whole movie I was wondering why Christian Bale plays two characters in the movie, it shows how poorly they masked the twin. Also cloning machine is used for magic tricks... Yep. I'll admit it's weirdnes is entertaining.

6/10

51. Memento

This is gold. You either watch it backwards or original chronology and it's still great. Not sure though why even created the backwards version which is the main version of movie. Also it's absolutely not confusing at all if you just think while watching it, was the point of having it backwards was to make confusing?

8/10

52. Alien

Really crappy horror movie. Once again before it's time with it's amazing special effects, but there is no tense and it's so boring. The only scene which I admit is really awesome is the the alien burst out of guy's tummy.

2/10

54. Grave of the Fireflies

Would be nice story, but it is a really stupid and unrealistic movie. Characters are extremely stupid yet people cryes when they die, because of their stupidity... I'm talking cause I know the life of poor, I know how it feels then you don't get to eat for 3 days and other stuff. The girl could have easily survived, especialy then the boy finnaly got money and still didn't buy food until it was too late. WHY DIDN'T HE BUY FOOD WHEN HE COULD????

2/10

58. The Lives of Others

Masterpiece, it's a heartbreaking drama. Everything is unpredictable, yet realistic. It has amazing characters and ending is one of the best endings ever. It's so sad barely anyone has seen this movie, at least there I live.

10/10 4th my favourite movie.

60. Avengers: Infinity War

Similar thing with this movie as with Endgame. Thanos is a horrible villain thinks, he will save creatures from hunger if he kills half the creatures. This logic is very stupid, because a thing called natural selection exists. Half of them would die anyway, also killing half the creatures doen't solve anything at all, because after many years planets will again become overpopulated so it's useless... instead he could have made infinite food resourses, peace and other stuff... Oh yea and that kind of weakling fans are marvel fans(sorry if sounded offensive)? Crying over the deaths of characters who were already predicted to be revived in the next movie because it is a marvel movie. Of course, all or most of them are gonna be revived, else they couldn't make sequels... I'll admit Thanos vs avengers fight was epic, but thats' about it. Also Dr Strange saying that were is only one way they could win really clishe and illogical, there thousand of ways they could win (hoe infinity war should have ended youtube, for example)

5/10

62. Django Unchained

Pretty good, tons of blood, great music.

7/10

63. The Shining

Really awesome, but dissapointing. I really wish that in the end Jack Nicholson and Wife changed roles. I mean that Jack became good and wife evil, it would have been a great twist. If that was the case you could theorize if Jack really turned back good and is the boy realy safe.

7/10

64. WALLĀ·E

Really good animated movie

8/10

65. Princess Mononoke

Masterpiece, the characters are really amazing, one of the best anime movies about true love.

10/10 2nd my favourite anime movie

67. Oldboy

I know most will disagree, but hollywood remake is much better than this. In this all characters are weird, dialogues are weird, people act like not human beings. It's very weird movie. American version on the other hand is amazing thriller in my opinion. I'll give it that twist is one of the best I've seen, ever. By the way I watched american version first and if I did watch original first I couldn't understand most of the stuff happening, cause it's storytelling is very unclear.

3/10 (9/10 american version)

68. Aliens

Much better than original, but it's only a decent action movie. Ending is amazing, but everything else is generic. People just lost their sh*t, because they didn't expext so many exenomorphs after the first movie having only one

6/10

69. The Dark Knight Rises

Really dissapointing sequel. Bane is far not as good of a villain as the joker. Also Bane is killed by cat woman, and is shot down... Expected much better.

4/10

70. American Beauty

Very meaningful movie about life. It teaches important lessons, though, many things in this movie are questionable if realistic.

7/10

71. Once Upon a Time in America

Would have been fantastic movie, even better than Godfather, but they had to make the 4th hour. First 3 hours are masterpiece in music and cinematography, characters are amazing and plot is great. Last hour is very boring, ultra boring, "nothing" happens. Especially then this movie had a perfect potencial ending after 3rd hour.

7/10

72. Coco

Really charming and great plot.

8/10 12th my favourite animated movie.

74. Citizen Kane

Very boring story. Full of awesome special effects.

2/10

75. Braveheart

Best movie ever made. Mel Gibson is one of the best actors and irectors of all time. Anyway, it is a 3h long epic story of fighting for FREEDOM!!! It's romantic, great action scenes packed. Soundtrack is very beautiful and it has one of the best endings ever.

10/10 1st my favourite movie.

76. Vertigo

Fantastic, hitchcock's best. Weird, yet cool story, very interresting special effects.

10/10

77. North by Northwest

The first two thirds are really good, then 3rd third is not so much.

6/10

78. Reservoir Dogs

Pretty good

6/10

79. Your Name.

Amazing love story, though full of plot holes and barely logical. Also ending couldve lasted longer, I know it was intentional end, but wish they showed a bit that happened next.

9/10 12th my favourite anime movie

81. M

Yet again, amazing for it's time, but now very primitive. Also it promotes liberalism...

1/10

83. Requiem for a Dream

Great story, intentionnaly stupid characters. I guess learn from their mistakes.

7/10

86. 2001: A Space Odyssey

Boring. The first half hour was very interresting, then it went very very slow pace. Yeat again amazing special effects for it's time.

3/10

87. Toy Story

Good, but not one of my favourites. Woody is way too much self ego.

126. Green Book

Amazing, similar to American History X a bit.

10/10

129. The Great Escape

It's fine, iconic story, but not very tense, again hard to rate, cause it's true story.

130. Children of Heaven

A story about a poor family. In the end boy wins the race, but didn't win the place and prize he wanted. the end. what? Everything until the end was pretty dencent, but the end is dumb.

5/10

162. The Sixth Sense

It has many great scenes, the scene when boy told his mo about his powers was very touching. But this movie is full of plot holes and the twist is crap. It is easily predicted at the restaurant scene, it's ultra hinting.

10/10 19th my favourite movie.

186. Stalker

Masterpiece. The only flaw is that the 10 minutes of begginning and the end are pure slowniness, just so overlong, basicly a character says a sentence and then it's silence for 10 seconds. Same happens in the whole middle, but there you have a fantastic cinematography and sightviews, also it supposed to be slow, but beggining and ending really should have been faster pased.

235. Groundhog Day

One of the best time travel and romance movies ever made.

10/10 9th my favourtie movie of all time.

2/10

239. Guardians of the Galaxy

Yet another Marvel movie, this one's really mediocre.

4/10

240. Before Sunset

It's nothing like original. original was a romantic movie about a whole date in one day for two people who will never meet again after, in this one it's just a talk betwen them about that happened after the first movie.
