This whole thing shows how out of touch decision makers still are. Fifteen, even ten years ago this might've gone unnoticed except in small groups and fringes on the Internet. They still don't get that now it just takes one tweet and the whole world knows.

@parrot_of_adun What's bad about cloud gaming in the future (which is where I'm sure we're heading to at some point)? I'm just curious, as I can think of positives like needing less storage on consoles, but not sure what would be bad. FYI-not being a jerk, just don't know enough about it all to know what potential negatives are.

@Mr_Clark Wow, you just don't get it. People who bought the game were promised that there would be a bonus in the PC version and GameStop just took it upon themselves to deprive the consumer of it without bothering to tell them. If they were at least up front about it then consumers would've had the option to buy the game somewhere else if the bonus was important to them. You can't argue that that's not deceptive. And the product is gutted; if someone's $60 suddenly gets them less as GameStop than anywhere else, it's because GameStop has damaged the overall product promised to consumers. And for GameStop to claim it's direct competition is nonsense since their service isn't even up yet.

@supertom221 "Piracy also saved me many times. Duke Nukem is a good example. I wanted to buy that game. I DL'd it instead, and GOD it was awfull! SO happy I didn't. Oh, look, it just saved me 60$, and my pride." Wow, so sad that you equate stealing with 'saving your pride'

The big difference in this divorce is that one of the 'spouses' will disappear: retailers (at least those like GameStop that only sell games). They'll limp along for a while on pre-owned non-current gen titles, but honestly it's very likely that next gen Sony and Microsoft consoles will be download-only for all new titles, having a disc tray for DVD/Blu-ray/backwards compatibility. There won't be any such thing as used game sales.

The problem is companies start the hype machine for games 18 months minimum before completion, with a targeted release date that corners everybody into a box. If the industry could somehow shift to a model where they just shut up about their game until it's 90% done there wouldn't be this pressure to meet an arbitrary date.

This is an interesting idea, though the corporate element make me suspect this is more about BB trying to clear out inventory than to do us a service (I mean come on, Dead Man's Chest, who are we kidding?)
