@rhediamond cant play the actual ps3 disc so no true backwards compatibility but yes you will be able to download digital oldschool ps1 ps2 ps3 games also games from the indie developers games for the vita and games even for the psp! games games games. I love sony! you will have to pay for that digital download though even though you already have a hard copy.
To everyone saying that they don't like having to pay for ps+ I hear ya I really do.all I have to say is YOU WILL BE AMAZED by the amount of games and stuff you get from being a ps+ member . and this will help sonys chat and overall functionality even better.
lets not forget that today sony also announced that you will be able to switch out the hard drive in the ps4 just like they did with the ps3.that means hard drive space is not an issue in the future and there cloud service launches in 2014
@sk8linkin not all the details but most have been answered on sonys side of things. sony said there cloud service will launch in 2014 which will do the whole digital game stuff. ps4 has a 500 gig hard drive but they announced today at e3 that it will b just like the ps3 in the way that you can swap out hdd for larger or small space. the cloud service sony is gona have will also deal with many other features as well. but in a nutt shell yes the playstation network will sale digital ps1 ps2 ps3 ps4 vita pspgames and many more new and refreshing indie titels to.
