The game also has perma-death and is heavily biased away from letting you reach a steady state (the hound attacks just keep on getting worse the longer you play), which would be hard to reconcile with multi-player.

@gosushi @shingui5 He isn't saying you're not entitled to the DLC you paid for. Rather that season passes remove some of the time pressure to release that content.

With the traditional model where you pay for the product when it is available, delays mean that the developer won't get their money as quickly and will need to cover operating expenses (loan repayments, rent, wages, etc) for that extra time out of their own pocket. Even if the product will be successful, if they take too long they could run out of money.

With a season pass, they have the money up front, so this pressure isn't anywhere near as strong. And since people have bought it upfront, it doesn't really matter how it reviews either ...

@zowbaid : I would be very surprised if DICE has been throwing out all its previous work for each iteration of its Frostbite engine.

They would be doing the same as Naughty Dog (and most studios, for that matter), and improving upon what they already have. If you do need to throw everything out, that usually indicates that the existing version is crap, rather than that the next version will be great.

@cdog21 The news article says he only has one month left of his sentence. If he was going stir-crazy, he might have thought it worth the inconvenience to make sure he didn't get the sentence extended.

@MrData359 One difference is that most software isn't written to take full advantage of your $4000 computer. They might have options to increase graphical detail, but some core aspects of the game will need to cater to the minimum specs.

While the specs revealed for the PS4 may not match the high end, they are somewhat higher than the minimum many PC games currently target. That is likely to show in the games developed for the system.

@Landsharkk : alternatively, AMD was able to offer a better deal by providing both CPU and GPU as a single integrated package. It isn't too surprising that this gives AMD an edge in the x86 market.

Presumably they're getting more money than Nvidia would from just providing a GPU.

@natalieyan : the grey market simply refers to parallel imports made by people other than the official distributor (which includes online purchases from overseas). It doesn't mean illegal imports.

If it was illegal, then it would be a black market.

So digital prices are set high because they only represent a small portion of the market. Might the high prices actually explain why it is such a small market?

And if the price isn't the issue and people will buy physical copies anyway, then why should bricks and mortar retailers care what price the digital versions are?

@lannyboy334: the Vita isn't running Android though, so why would the Vita's strengths and shortcomings have any bearing on Android (or vice versa)?

So how does the price compare with a PSP-3000 plus 16GB MemoryStick Duo card? And is there any performance difference between starting a download game from a PSP Go's internal memory compared with loading off an M2 card, and compared with a PSP-3000 starting the same game off a MemoryStick Duo?
