"The core gaming market didn't buy the Wii to play Wii Sports. But it was a means by which gamers could get the nongaming people in their lives to take an interest in their hobby. Wii Fit will play a similar role: It will continue to broaden interest in videogames. That's important for the core gamer — the bigger the audience, the greater the chance for something that's new and unique to succeed. As the people around you who haven't been playing videogames take an interest in things like Wii Fit, it's going to change the impression that people have of what videogaming means. Rather than be concerned that we're abandoning them, core gamers should realize that we're creating a better environment for their hobby."

I wholeheartedly disargree.
I, have in the past, stated that the point of the wii as well as such simulators as wii fit cater to the non/casual gamers. The people in my life either like video games or have absolutely no interest in them at all. I've had friends/family whom are non-gamers get their hands on such games as wii sports (which was meant for the non and casual audience) and games such as halo (which is targeted towards a hardcore audience) and they had gotten bored within minutes. Miyamoto and other reps of nintendo have time after time spoken for core gamers in a very falsified manner. Also, Wii fit does not create a better environment for gamers. I creates a fatter wallet for nintendo. This entire quote wreaked of cockiness with the "my "unique" machine is changing gaming" and "i know whats best for you". It's reasons like this why I've over the years I've developed a dislike for Miyamoto.
I personally have no interest in wii fit. I have a gym membership at gold's gym. I go there anywhere from 4-6 days a week. I've always been active in sports my entire life. I also do some cross country running and sometimes me and a group of friends will go to the park and play a game of basketball, flag football, soccer, cricket etc.. If someone is not interested in sports then I'm open to doing anything they like to do. Sky is the limit when it comes to leisure and I'm an extrovert who is adventurous who doesn't need to veg out in front of a screen all day at the same time wants others to join me. Gaming is my hobby but it not my only hobby.
