The break-up reference is out of exasperation. He's being childish about it, the same way Pierce Brosnan is being childish about the new Bond movie. He has lost touch with the reality in this situation, which is the fact that someone may be able to do a much better job than him. Sad, but true.
I won't discredit him for the original three movies, they are masterpieces. But I'm finding it hard to see anything that he's done since as worthwhile (for SW, of course).
There is a MAJOR flaw in your logic. George Lucas also = forgettable Star Wars movies (see episodes 1, 2 and 3). Although not without their merits, they all stunk. So really, George Lucas = Star Wars movies, which means nothing.
He may have started the universe for SW, but someone else is going to finish it. As a matter of fact, others have been filling in the gaps for years with both canon and non-canon written fiction.
He has no sense of how to finish the project, so I'm glad he's fully removed. And man does he seem bitchy about it.
Agreed, FAR too similar to SF4. And although it was smooth and looked good in action, I for one HATED the art direction they took. Can Ryu's feet honestly look any bigger?
Too bad, but it seems like a missed opportunity. Even stranger when other fighting franchises have switched up their game with subsequent releases.
Oh well, I'll put it on the doubtful list... for now.
@BassMan Then you don't agree with the reviews at all. You basically state the game is not worth playing. That's not a 6. At all. Why do so many people think a 6 equates to a bad score?
@Peazo "Completely drops the atmosphere if you die and have to repeat a section"
Confusing statement. Would you rather you died and just picked up where it left off? That would drop the atmosphere for sure. Kind of pointless trying to survive if you don't need to survive, no?
I get the feeling that the scores from GS and IGN are due to the reviewers amount of hands on time prior to the finished product. I could be wrong, but it feels like they played some of the more tense areas in the game during preview builds, and were ultimately let down by the padding that was added around those initial mechanics.
I came into this game with a clear mind, as I hadn't watched more than a single preview. I'm walking away from the game with a sense of satisfaction, but I will admit that there is some level of unnecessary tedium.
I can't say the 6 is unfair or unjustified in any way. It's Kevin's personal opinion (and whether or not what I wrote above is true, his opinion varies from mine for whatever reason, that I'm OK with). My personal opinion would pin it at around a 7 or 7.5. Overall a great experience, but I can't see myself digging in to play again any time soon.
GOTY? Definitely not, but not a "Fair" game in my mind.
@beckerjr I agree, the comment is just plain stupid at best, and outright ignorant at worst. Kind of slaps the face of any veteran who served for their country... Then again, I don't agree with a lot of Carolyn's review points (not just this game, but others).
The slider pic above... what the hell is going on in that pic? Is it really representative of the final product?
Look at her face and hair, absolutely terrible and low-res on the PS4, whereas everything else looks sharper.
A nitpick, for sure, but just looking for info from those who have played the new version... does that pop up in other areas of the game too? It just looks so incredibly out of place, it's jarring.
To speak to the game itself, one of my favorites for sure. And I hold equal amounts of hate for Joel as I do love, that's what I find so interesting about him. He's not a cookie-cutter character, and I still ponder the decisions he made through the adventure (even though I haven't admittedly played in months).
