@ecurl143:

The reason of these "review in progress".... The game is nothing special and will score a 7 or 8 out of 10. They can't say it now as a lot of game population rely on rating to make their purchase decision. Buy it now at $59, or buy it months later when prices are less than half.

So, you have this "review in progress", made beautifully, sort of, to help boost initial sales, some gamers "WILL" be tricked into buying now.

Then finally a bomb drops when giving a final score.

If you want to know how it rates, go to metacritic. Ignore user reviews tho as lots of assholes give 1 or 0 which brought the score way down.

Tnugent7, I think stand alone BR players are expensive (as of all new consumer electronics technologies) because of a few reasons. First is that manufacturers need to pay a fee (and not cheap) to buy n use the BR technology. Secondly, as you said and I 100% agreed with you that only a handful of early -adopters will actually spend the money on uncertain next-gen media format technology, the sales volume will likely be small. The high cost of obtaining BR tech and associated costs of BR player development, coupled with expected low volume sale cause these players to be priced very expensively. Lastly, since these BR players are going to be priced expensively due to the above, and since they are next-gen machinery made specially for loaded early-adopters who usually care very much about machine specs, they (BR players) then have to be loaded with the latest technologies n hardwares manufacturers have to offer. 7.1 channel with built-in amplifier, the lastest built-in blah blah blahs that deliver the most authentic images n sound, etc. The fact that these BR players do not generate volume sales but manufacturers still develop n market them, makes me feel that they are more like technology show-off and image builders for these consumer electronics companies. I mean, it is like electric or fuel cell cars. And I can remember that years ago the price of a 42" plasma TV can buy you several now, with much better specifications. But I think it is difficult to say for now if blu-ray will or will not be the next gen media format. The idea for Sony (read from internet) is to use PS3 to create a good amount of public usage of blu ray tech. PS3 was orginially thought to create a huge demand like PS2 (which sold like 20 million units?). When enough usage exists, movie companies will then be more willingly to invest in publishing their movies in blu ray disc aside from normal DVD disc format (because making and marketing blu ray disc movies do have its costs). More BR playing ability of the public, more BR discs, then ALL movie studios might actually use HD cameras to shoot ALL of their productions, bringing us consumers the true HD age, as well as Sony making great money on HD equipments and rights of manufacturing. But then, so far PS3 looks crippled, at least when compared to what we all expected earlier. For me personally, I don't feel it is time YET to buy a PS3 and to feel afterward so limited on my original purpose of buying a game console (that is, to play good fun games!). Instead, I have an xbox 360 and am very happy about it although some people do think PS3 out-performs xbox 360. To me, the difference in performance is very marginal even if it is true. It is like a competition between the top end nvidia and ATI graphic cards, a few frames per second difference, and some like the graphics from nvidia better, and some like the ATI. Given the performances of these 2 consoles are similar, in the end, it is the abundant choices of good games, price of the machine that matters to gamers, and xbox 360 certainly offers both. Smart gamers will play xbox360 for now, wait for the price of PS3 to drop to a reasonable level before considering to get one. To the hardcore Sony fanbase, if you really want performance and graphics, invest in an expensive computer and play PC games. PC graphic calculating power evolves constantly unlike consoles, and games have more depth (this part is my personal opinion). Microsoft, lost the previous-gen console battle, while Nitendo simply did not engage. They came prepared this time and brought us consumers 2 great machines and an abundant gaming choices, at a reasonable price. Not only both companies rip great profits from the success, they also created intangible value of consumer confidence in their brand name, which can't be measured. Years ago when you have an xbox or sega people may look at you in a strange way, now it is the other way around. PS2 outsold other consoles too easily, too large of a q'ty, and Sony got careless this time. The legacy of PS is seriously damaged. Consumers take sides, the side which are best for them. hardcore loyal fanbase exists but their small qty is unlikely to have much affect over console sales. Game developers will always want to sell their games to all the consoles at one time, they will want to develop games for the console that guarantees big consumer coverage, and this time it is xbox360.
