[QUOTE="gokuofheaven"]29 more Dreamcast games left huh? Still seems like a lot when you stack them up. I knew what I was getting into when I started my collection and I get carried away easily. The main reason for me to stop collecting in the past 6+ months is that i'm just running out of room. My personal goal is to grab up the Saturn (US/Japan) collection and this would just be the games I am interested in, not the whole library. I'm about a few games short but almost done. Still looking for a good deal on Street Fighter Alpha 3 boxed version with the RAM cartridge. Aside from that I still browse around for Dreamcast, Genesis and Turbo Duo. I don't think i'll ever finish but hopefully my kid will enjoy the collection in the future and possibly finish the list for me.WitIsWisdom
I guess I am selfish, but I started my kids with their own collection that they can decide how they want to split when the time comes... lol
They know I love them and that they can play games in my collection, but they also know that it is MINE. :P
They are still young though.... I might change my mind one day, but my collection is less of an investment in my mind then a hobby. I have put over 20 years into collecting what I have, and that is why it means so much to me... if I simply inherited or was handed the colection, i'm not so sure I would appreciate it as much. That is why I even though I know many collectors buy in bulk on ebay that I cant bring myself to do that... I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, so I usually buy my games in the wild, and I try to avoid online transactions as much as possible. However it has gotten hard recently which is another reason I have slowed down. That and the fact that my collection is getting so big that sometimes I forget a few titles I already own and sometimes I double up which I really hate doing seeing as though I dont buy a retro game unless it is basically near mint in the first place.
The only ones making out from me getting doubles are my kids... lol I went through my NES and SNES games culling my doubles and triples, and their collection gained like 40 copies... :P
Problem is, I feel like a dork carrying around a list or some kind of digital handheld with a database of all my games. I usually remember everything I have because thats my thing, but sometimes I have that.... eh I'm not sure feeling, and wouldnt you know my gut feeling is usually right.. heh
I'm pretty sure that I'll do the same with the kids but the main thing I want them to appreciate is Retro gaming rather than diving into current-gen or any of the tablet games so my collection is open to them any time of the day. About 10-15 years ago flea markets and garage sales were a big thing but around here (NY/NJ) we don't have many of those left which is really a shame. Sometimes i'm forced to Ebay but I also do like hunting down certain games, that's one of the main purpose for collecting. As far as carrying around a list, I just use a generic app on my ipod and keep a list of what I'm currently looking for. I use to carry around a list in my wallet but it started to get thick:P
