Most new RTS games in the last few years have really stunk. I am looking for a true strategy game that doesn't depend on people getting to the MOAB first. I like a game where I can beat you politically, socially, economically, or militarily. Many of these games today, if you don't strike first and win, you should just restart the game. Whatever happened to an underdog being able to recover from a bad early stage beat down.

[QUOTE="Quake23"]I've been watching this thread, every union leader should be but I've been noticing the discussion about the union level and I feel the need to comment. My union is level 3. I don't remeber when we hit that level but thats not the point. The very first union I joined on GS was at level four but it has died out already. I see the union levels as sort of a challenge, like that union died at level four so lets surpass that level to show we can push on. Its kind of like keeping our morale up along with the interesting things going on in the union. With the challenge of constantly trying to surpass failed unions and the joy of posting in the topics, we will hopefully be very active for a long time but with that said, I have to agree with Sent. Union levels aren't really that important. They have no real purpose though to me its fun striving to the next level, nothing will change when we hit that next level. And what will happen when a union finally reaches that last level? Most likely, nothing so what are they for? To measure how long a union has been around, I know of a few union who have been around longer than others but are still lower in level. So whats my take on all of this? I honestly won't care one way or the other. Yeah its fun striving to the next level but a union shouldn't live for that. A union should have more substance than that, another way to survive than just striving to the next level. Unions are made with a special something in mind like DBZ Unions are usually made for DBZ, Naruto for Naruto, etc, and usually, unions who stick to that purpose find a way to survive. Hell, my union was made off of an RPG I was thinking up for another union that died b4 it was finished. Unions have ways to survive or be unique without the levels, they just have to find it.curlfro
I agree with you completely. The union level is kind of a fun little extra, so that the union can try and strive to reach the next one, so on and so forth, but the trouble of maintianing it (how many Union Level glitches have there been? Too many) isn't really worth the trouble of having it. They should just get rid of it and focus on making the union like what Sent says.

It also encourages spammers and a good union can be distroyed in a second.  In addition, good "community threads" could be used to boost counts and then are considered against TOS.  For example, Check-in check-out threads are TOS, but I can tell you that I have had many online conversation generated out of those threads that were relevant and game oriented.

Scrap the levels and remove the mods reason for watching thread posting counts of good gaming related and non-offensive unions

Wow.....there's like over 100 more replies in this thread since I visited it last night! :o If this doesn't make GameSpot see that the features are wanted, then nothing will.Sentinelrv

Don't hold your breath.  I thought the 1000s of post in November would make a difference...........  Still waiting.

In one union, that doesn't exist anymore, a new layout like yours was proposed, it got great reviews and a lot of support.......

Many of these features would make GameSpot all the more appealing to more people.  With the added features it would feel more like a community. Which was the intended purpose of the unions in the first place.

There is a saying that fits this: "If you are going to do something, make sure you do it right!"

So far GaemSpot hasn't done it right (no offence GameSpot), but this would be a step in the right direction.  Yes, there are many features that would have to be added and it would take many countless nights to program and add all of these features, but if GameSpot wants to keep all of it members and still gain new ones...It would be a good idea to add most of the features if not all of them.

I agree 100%.  I was begining to think that people didn't understand that a forum is made up of the people who contribute!  It is not OK to do something that may work for a few people.

It is interesting that they are now worried!  People are finally fed up.  I consider it an insult that they would use the phase "Why did you tell us earlier?"

Read the forums!!!!!!!!!!  There are hundreds of threads with thousands of posts and blog entries on how the changes made last year reduced the functionality of the unions and that some rule changes and inconsistent mod enforcement has ruined the "sense of a gaming community".

I am not willing to go through listing change suggestions again.  Look at last November and address the issues from 2005 first!  They need to show some commitment on their side before I believe them.

Please keep the topic with the forum issues. If anyone else is having these problems, we're interested in your story since it seems like not everyone is having the same exact problem at the same time. Please also list the times when this occurs. Thanks! :D

I get the errors everytime I log in.  Anywhere from 7:00 AM morning to 2:00 AM at night EST.  I would say 1 in 3 page retrieval return something missing.  From profiles pages missing blogs and friends blog lists to Forum returning empty pages or lost posts.  The extent of issues is large.

I have to think the revolution will make the biggest impact.

XBox360 is already out and Halo 3 will be very exciting.

The PS3 will probably have something working by then and can make a decent showing.

Nintendo should have the revolution finished.  From what I have read, the technology already exists in mass quantities for the Revolution console.  That should make it very easy to produce.  If they show up with a working production ready console and a bunch of games, they will own E3.

OMG besides the point and bad economics/hardware knowledge, get out please.kawakev

according to forbes.
The company made sure to warn consumers in May 2005 that the new machine would be expensive. It didn't say how expensive, but with advanced components like a new "Cell processor" and a high-definition Blu-Ray disc drive, the PS3 will likely cost consumers more than the Xbox 360, which retails for $400.

Thank you flynn_p2006.  It looks like we have some posters that think they are more knowledgeable than Forbes...  It looks like someone needs to take their own advice.  8)
