Also, please stop pretending that you're gonna restore the posts you "accidentally" purged (I don't buy that for a second), because 5 months later, it's obvious you're not going to.
As for the main forums, it may have been your intention, but you've succeeded in killing a huge portion of forum traffic. Please, don't kill the rest of it: Fix these damn forums.
Well, they said after the redesign that everything would be sorted out and fixed over time, but I never ever see these errors and problems go away. I only see new ones pop up all the time. It seems they ignore the problems all the time, or are busy with other things......I don't know....I just wish they would work like they should, and that these errors were fixed for good. It just seems like nothing ever gets fixed and there's always annoying bugs.Sentinelrv
simple fact remains the new layout was a mistake. Its no where near as functional as the layout before.

Ya, their have been a lot of bugs lately.
It's getting annoying.
I'd be even more angry if I payed for this site(which I will soon).
Yes, I'm sure they know the problems and are working on them. Shape up or ship out guys. If they're working on it, good. If they aren't, thats not good but fine. Its not like you have to come here. Usually all you have to do is refresh the page and its fixed.bulletproofcow
Shut up.

Come on GS. We have no alternative. We're too decent to go off to IGN or Gamespy or any of that other garbage. Just go back to the old forums. Everyone will be happier all around.

I'm sorry to say that's impossible. There were many changes to how the forums worked during the redesign. The only thing they could do is provide us with a similar looking skin. The problems, however, would still remain.
I don't work at GameSpot, so I don't know their daily jobs, or if they are even working on these problems. All I know is that I don't understand how we could still be having every day problems this far into the redesign. It's either a MySQL error, pages don't load, boards don't load, posts don't.....post....etc...and it never seems to be fixed.

By refresh you mean refresh it 26 times right? :|
Oh never fear guys, I've been visiting this site for about 5 years reguarly now. What'll happen is you will see later this year a new Gamespot design released that will replace this design and not fix any bugs, yet create all new ones.

Do they do a re-design once a year?

2 weeks before E3 so the whole thing doesn't work at all, too.
Never forget that awsome idea :)

I personally can't the number of ad's doubled when they changed to the new layout, and they have many more flash, and movie type ad's that launch up foreign windows that my pop up blocker wont stop.
the whole site is smaller, images aren't as big. Avatars we're made smaller, and any picture thats wider then like 200 pixels gets scrolled so i cant see the whole image. And it just kill's long posts that aren't formated right.
My main issue with the forums is having to re-type my posts over and over because the damn Submit button is broken. The same thing goes with viewing threads, you have to hit Refresh multiple times just to read something.
To whoever complained about the ads - They provide a FREE service for you giving you news, reviews, etc. You have no right to complain. This is how GameSpot makes their money. If you don't like the ads, leave and go to IGN, or get GS Complete.
I enjoy the redesigned site with GSC - no ads make it much better and easier to read. It's just they should've fixed these forum problems months ago.

except I will Compalin about the ad's whenever i want.
Before the new layout? ad's weren't obtrusive. now? there are 3 times more ad's as before. They pop up when i dont want them too my pop up blocker doesn't stop them.
spcially the flash and movie file type ad's that will just start playing with out permisson and kill my browser.
Fine they offer a free service, But when ad's start geting in the way of things, and causing the whole site to run slowly load slowly and mess up. then it time you reevaluate your ad's.
This thread is set up for any admin response to look trite, but I'm going to try and lay out for you what our plans are for this stuff. We're now about 5 months out from the time of the redesign. All of our forum code was restructured at that time--basic posting, moderation tools, admin tools, everything. Everything was built anew, and the system structured to handle it has managed things... barely. We're still getting whitepages, still getting posting errors, and still getting lag. Obviously this isn't acceptable to anyone, as a basic tenet of functional software is reliability. Bugs are one thing, but performance errors have been a monkey on the back of the community for quite some time.
We discussed just this issue in a meeting last week, and everyone's in absolute agreement that marginal upgrades that don't quite comfortably meet our community needs aren't cutting it. We're in the process of negotiating for increased resources to finally put performance forward, and we're treating it as a top-priority issue. I wish I could come in here and say it's just a matter of us purchasing some giant Voltron machine and plugging it in and having everything fixed in an hour--it's what you and I would like, but it's not going to happen that quickly. But while we've always tried to tack down issues as they arise to try and ensure that the forums and other features run as smoothly as possible (and thus messages like "we're working on this, we appreciate your continued patience, we're looking into errors, etc, etc"), exorcising those demons as completely as we can is the ultimate goal.
By coming into this thread and cataloging performance issues you've had with the community features, you're illustrating the importance of fixing these issues with each post you make. PLEASE continue to do so (constructively, obviously), and we'll make sure each and every post gets in front of the eyes of those who need to see that this is extremely vital to the community.
The performance issues that this topic speaks of began about a week and a half ago. Yes, there have always been loading problems off and on, but whatever is causing this issue is being caused by something very specific. One day, the forums weren't having loading problems. The next day, probably 20% of the page loads I've seen have shown database connection errors. I would think that it would be relatively simple to track down what change caused this problem and revert it.RockMFR

No by all means now any reply by admins isn't trite its much welcomed cause the forums are we'll that ******* up.
Its personally geting worse and worse and worse for me every day. I've done every thing to halt it (i'm suprized this post even loaded lets just hope it actually lets me post it at times it wont) I've cleaned out all my caches on this system, I've made sure I was the latest software in every thing that the site might be using.
and its just geting slower and slower and messing up more and more. I've even went to the local library and got on the computer there, and its the same thing all most as if the evil gremlins are following my account and not my computer.
So any Admin reply wont be taken as trite cause its becomming so bad we need some thing said or we're all gonna go insane.

Thanks for a great response!(since your the only one who has)
Hopefully you will get what you need.
Cause the forums suck right now.
good but just to remind you guys something. The reason why people leave is also because they are being ignored. For eg., PM an admin and they usually dont respond but some do like Vince.
Please tell all the GS admins to respond to PMs, that may seem like nothing but it means a lot. These glitchs are one thing but you guys gotta respond to stuff so then we know you are on it.
Like right now, Bethany just made that post, that post has not gotten positive replies.
It does make a difference.
yeh latley before i submite a post i highlite it all and copy it cause many times it doesn't go though i have to retype everything. _honcho_I don't know if this works for everyone, but I simply click the "Back" button and voila, there is everything I wrote before submitting the post. FYI. I clicked "Quote" twice only to have nothing show up. Refreshed the page, clicked "Quote" again, only to have the reply box come up without the reply quote. Then it finally worked. A bit annoying actually.

^im gonna let this thread fall to the way side but it does have alot of helpful information about the problems i've been having including screen shots..., and error messages. and a few posts by others that have had the problem.

Please keep the topic with the forum issues. If anyone else is having these problems, we're interested in your story since it seems like not everyone is having the same exact problem at the same time. Please also list the times when this occurs. Thanks! :D Â
