When I first got Xbox Live a year or so ago I loved it. It was the best unified online system available PC included. Joining games was a breeze and you could easily see where your frineds were, what games they were playing and chat with them no problem. Look at Halo 2. That was the pinacle of online console gaming. Even the menus were lightning fast. Sending and recieving voice messages, creating new game types and the like were all at arms reach.
But now I'm not so keen on Xbox Live. After a recent attempt to play CoD 4 with my friend I became increasingly frustrated with my service. After booting the game up and waiting no less than 30 seconds to get to my friends list I accepted the game invite he sent me. After numerous attempts to join in vain I realized my game had not updated my settings automatically so I manually signed out of Xbox Live and back in again so it could recognize that it had to update my settings. All this while dealing with a painfully slow menu system that made me want to throw my controller out the window.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if we're really in the next generation of gaming here, why can't I connect to a simple match with my friend without waiting 10 minutes just to accept the invite and download updates?
