" Further government grants for additional "patriotic" games will be introduced, the report said."

That says it all. There's money involved.

@RC-Sev lol you'll probably spend more time trying not to get hit by bad drivers than committing crimes in that game.

I see this a little differently. I think Square Enix is making a funding platform for games where their "experts" can provide some due diligence and mentoring. Kickstarter does not, and sometimes you get developers who go in way over their heads when they get funding, since they might not have any experience managing a game and thus do not know how much funding or work is necessary and how to efficiently use and manage resources. I think Takedown Red Sabre is a perfect example of this.

It's a difficult job and you need experienced people to help you. I think the most important thing is actually stepping back if you don't have the experience and know-how and letting an experienced CEO come in and lead while you be the creative director. At least he knows how to make the game happen, while you provide the vision.

I don't see this as a bad thing if the experts can stay neutral and not only promote stuff that directly benefits Square Enix in a big way.

@red_city The process to get a VC to invest that kind of money in your company is extremely long and tedious, usually takes months even after they've said yes. You need to write everything out clearly, like the terms of their equity and takes pros like lawyers to put that all into writing like a contract. One mistake can potentially destroy the deal and/or the company, so both sides and their lawyers go over the documentation for a long time. Then the VC usually comes and monitors you all the time to make sure you're doing what they want and what you said you'd do. It's almost a second job to manage that relationship

Kickstarter skips all that. They backers don't get equity or stock in your company. All they get is what you say in that rewards box. It's far faster and cleaner and the time can be spent on making the game rather than taking care of the VC issues.

@blutosan When I was little, we didn't have internet and my parents wouldn't pay for game magazines, so there was no way of knowing whether a game was good or not unless you actually played it at a friend's house. But, the Mario games were done so well that anyone could pick up a Mario game and chances are would enjoy it. The brand carried that message, plus there were no actions like using prostitutes to recover health and then blowing them away to get your money back. That's why everyone played them, cause they didn't want to risk getting some unknown game and ragequitting 10 minutes in or having parents make you take it back.

@93ChevyNut @Grenadeh @ShutUpFanboys I just want to play games that I paid for undisturbed. I think it can happen, especially if they can make you pay an extra $1 to remove it. My friend showed me this guy ranting on Castlevania on Youtube how they keep pausing the game to tell you that day has turned into night and vice versa. I'd pay that $1 to get rid of it if the game is really engaging.

Can't wait till they start charging for key presses. $1 for 1000 circle button presses. $1 for 1000 square button presses. Once you're out, you need to pay more or the button has no effect. At least this will make button mashers rethink their strategies and make players plan out their games with the fewest moves possible lol
