wasnt until the recent news that they found out that unions were actually active.

The-Apostle

wrong. they have the data at their fingertips at any time. this is how internet-based businesses work: tracking page hits and associated ad stuffs

And yet, stuff sometimes slips through the cracks. Like unions, for example. They've been ignored for so long they probably assumed no one used them anymore.

Yes, the unions were poorly maintenance, and that probably contributed considerably to their decline.

this isn't stuff the mods know about. they have peeps employed at some level by GS and/or CBS whose task it is, for employment, to pore over this sh!t.

How many and how active?

The-Apostle

I dont know how many exactly, i can really only name 2:P

the Elite Gamers of OT and the SCU i kow are still active.

the union Jedi was leader of seemed pretty active.

and judging by the fact that users here got GS to make "standard forums" for the new GS, when they were just gonna completely get rid of unions, leads me to believe there are quite a few other active unions.

I think there's enough active unions to get them to stay entirely. Besides, if they really need money to keep them going they can bring back Total Access.

It's not like they didn't rum the numbers. They're a for-profit business, for Christ's sake. I'm guessing the Total Access didn't bring in squat, or else they wouldn't have dropped it, either.

Businesses don't just make money so that they can scoot by. Making money is the sole purpose of their operation.

those seem fairly active

nonetheless, there needed to be a certain quantity to maintain

ofc, if they can manage to grow off of this, it is also remotely possible that unions could return in some way shape or form

but they are managing a declining site at this point

was kind of bad on gs's part that they never got around to updating the unions when the forums changed. DavesAlt

iirc, traffic was already diminishing by then

but the lack of upkeep definitely did them no favors

[QUOTE="dude_brahmski"]

[QUOTE="The-Apostle"] I've heard union traffic is MUCH higher than that but whatever.The-Apostle

It is actually well LESS than that.

"This is especially true when you take into consideration Union usage statistics--on a website that gets well north of 100 million pageviews a month, Unions contribute just over one quarter of one percent of that. "

0.25%

Most of those users will stay.

If it was MUCH higher than 2%, they would be forced to keep them for $, but that simply isn't the case.

That's a lie. And the real reason they're dropping unions in the first place is because they're lazy and don't give a crap.

It isn't a lie. They give a crap about money. The amount of money they get has to do DIRECTLY with the amount of page views. That they are dropping unions indicates that they aren't making money off of them (at least not enough to justify maintenance expenditures - and some of the page views will simply be replaced by union users posting elsewhere on the site anyway) which indicates that they are not being used.

If they WERE used, they would keep them alive for money, PERIOD.

Unions have been dead for years. Yes, this is largely GS's doing b/c non-existant, but that doesn't change the fact that the existing userbase is miniscule.
