Maybe they can do nice things after that, but they are in serious need of a real overhaul. The site is woefully mismanaged (e.g., they wouldn't have to drop unions if they, IDK, had a few decent programmers keeping their site functional on the main boards, let alone things like unions, etc.)

That is in no small part b/c CBS Interactive forgot that they can't just put up a website and expect it to run as-is forever. It's like they weren't even trying.

It isn't a lie. They give a crap about money. The amount of money they get has to do DIRECTLY with the amount of page views. That they are dropping unions indicates that they aren't making money off of them (at least not enough to justify maintenance expenditures - and some of the page views will simply be replaced by union users posting elsewhere on the site anyway) which indicates that they are not being used.

If they WERE used, they would keep them alive for money, PERIOD.
