you can't say "Well if this generation lasted this many years, then the next one will last at least that long" and then turn around and say "Well if this generation lasted this many years, then the next one will last that long at most" That's just stupid and bias. You should really think abotu your logic before you say stuff. Plus, MS didn't have theirs finished in time to release when the ps2 did, but they wanted to make sure they were in the front of the next generation so they didn't get left behind. And the only reason sony didn't release ps3 the same year as the 360 is because they couldn't. Their product wouldn't work. They're just barely being able to get it out this year (and only in 2 regions). Heck, they had to lower the specs of the ps3 twice already since they announced it.
One other thing, you can't compare the ps2's success to what the ps3 may have. The ps3 is pushing for a different audience than the ps2 was. Plus the other consoles are stealing part of their audience. I know a lot of ps2 gamers who don't want a ps3 because they're not putting out enough of the types of games that were the main reason for the ps2's success.
in my opinion ps3 is for those people who are willing to pay a little extra to have things first, those who just want all the consoles, and those few who actually like the exclusives they offer over the other consoles. Beyond that you can't really know until it comes out. The 360 is for those who really want the intuitive functionality and costomizability (and those who like pc games but don't like playing them on a pc...yes, they do exist), and those who like it's true intigration to your home-theatre (i personally prefer a console that integrates with my pc over one that wants to replace it but can't really come close...sony has stated that they plan to make the pc obsolete with the ps3). The Wii is for people who want a new form of gameplay, those who care more about how fun there games are than polished graphics, people who aren't lazy, of course, people who like the classic games(ps1 is not classic...sorry to bust your bubble), people who like Nintendo's exclusives, of course, people who want the simpler gameplay, and people who really like to get "into" there games(ps3's motion sensor is a gimmick compaired to Wii's). In the end, it's just about what you want out of your console. One may not be any better than the rest, and that doesn't even gaurantee success. Many good consoles have failed. I, personally prefer the 360 and Wii...but, hey, I'll have a ps3 on day one as well, so soon I'll really get to see which one's best. I've already played the other 2 and know that I really like them.

You know when you can tell someone feels they're losing an argument? When they start arguing points that have nothing to do with what they're arguing about..."I play a real guitar and live in the city" Come on...that's so gay it's not even funny. Grow up a little. That's like me saying I make games, so I don't need to play them because I live them. That's just bs...oh, btw, playing guitar hero and a real guitar are apples and oranges. Sometimes the game's easier and sometimes it's WAY harder, and it's nothing like playing an actual guitar
Oh, and one more thing...the Wii might not be "next-get" in graphics, but they're still better than the xbox, plus they have internal flash memory, downloadable content, the best interface of the 3 consoles, full-size disks, sd memory slots and a buttload of 3rd party support, amongst other new things(all of its functionality hasn't been anounced yet, and it's upgradable). So stop saying it's just a gamecube with a new controller. That's just fanboy talk...and it reaks of ignorance.

I'm not saying that ps3 will not have some good games...it's not out yet. I'm just saying, it's no wonder we're not considered a true form of art/entertainment. "Who cares about fun game, as long as they look pretty". That's all I'm reading from you sony fanboys. Why does Nintendo have to be just for beginners just because it's offered a new, more accessible gameplay style? Do you people know how many hard-core gamers are buying a Wii??? Do you know how many ps2 lovers aren't buying a ps3??? If you're not in the developing world don't talk like you know what developers prefer, and if you think Madden (or any sports game for that matter) is one of the best games this year, then don't even start talking about hard-core gaming. Half of you have probably never even seen hard-core gaming. I'm sorry for ranting, but it stinks of ignorance in these posts.
Yall boast about the technology of the ps3 making it sooo much better than the rest and making it the winner in the next race, but where were you when the xbox, which was almost an entire generation ahead of the rest came out. It didn't sell as well as the ps2, and it wasn't because the technology wasn't as good. Heck, the GameCube had better technology than the ps2. Proof that the best hardware isn't always the winner. You need the games, and reputation makes a big difference, too. Let's face it, the ps3 has a pretty bad reputation right now, and the games this christmas don't compare to those on the other 2 consoles, so who do you think is gonna win. 360 has a decent line-up already...and with the only next-gen Splinter Cell (though already released), Gears of War, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey being Holiday games for the 360, and the Wii's amazing launch line-up (zelda, anyone...the most popular game franchise of all time, hands down), I'm seeing Wii, 360, then ps3. Sorry, I don't hate Sony like I used to, but they're just being stupid about this whole thing.
