@Kristhomas123 Camera-required games are a niche, and will always be a niche, until virtual reality becomes a, ahem, reality. All the cameras nowadays are far from being virtual reality. Therefore, it is completely unnecessary to include a camera for all SKUs. If XBone had required all games to use the camera, then it would be a huge step towards expanding that niche, but it might also backfire. In any case, I prefer to have the option to buy the camera.
"What we admittedly don't have…is any peer-reviewed studies or research that tell us that there is a definitive link between exposure to violent video games and violence."
This isn't because they haven't tried, Chris. Researchers have been trying for years to find a causative link. It doesn't exist, stop funding more useless research.
@Coyteria There's no reason Xbone had to drop the family sharing plan. I think they just had a kneejerk reaction to the bad press and disabled all of their DRM stuff. Maybe they'll wise up and add that back in.
There seems to be some anti-consumer sentiment going around in that "people honestly think" that the public's outrage over the M$ DRM has somehow caused the loss of the family-sharing feature Xbone was touting (and have now dropped). I think these mystery "people" are just paid M$ moles trying to stir up arguments against disc-based games. Think about it... what does playing used games and playing offline have to do with family-sharing? Xbone could have enabled used games and offline gaming without dropping the family-sharing feature. They just chose to drop it all because.... why? It doesn't make any sense, unless they just want disc-based games to look like the villain.
@Zevvion @delcidanddarth @mcbane187 Actually, the numerous news stories/videos leave it out. The official update says download games are also offline playable. I'll put down my pitchfork now.
@mcbane187 @delcidanddarth They didn't say you can play digital games offline... they only said disc-based. Or are you not the suspicious type, and assume they meant all games?
I can play disc-based games offline? That's nice... what about my digital-based games? Sounds like a suspiciously worded "backpedaling". Hopefully, you are online once to validate your digital copy, and then no longer need to... but they said "disc-based"...
Didn't Major Nelson say their original policies were built into the system, and changing it wasn't like flipping a switch? And now, a week later, the policies are completely different? Either they are taking the next few months to completely change the system to be compliant with the new policies, OR, they can switch it off that quickly.... which also means, they can just as easily switch it back on whenever they want.
You dropped the ball, Gamespot. If you're going to use mods from your "5 best skyrim mods of the week" to do a HISHE Red Wedding, then exploding chickens was the way to go.
