@traptedmind: Because LOTR is a proven winner and an iconic IP. Adapting something new is risky, especially a fantasy epic. Studios are allergic to risk, more nowadays than 1-2 decades ago.
I'm hoping this is good, but other than spectacular visuals due to the much bigger budget, I'm not holding my breath. The Chinese adaptation of this books is excellent and, due to having 30 episodes, allows you to know the characters and explore the world of the story.
Why is everyone and their cat so fixated on making survival games with/or MMO elements nowadays? Why not just craft a single player experience, even if more limited in scope that players won't forget 2 days after playing it?
Dune is a vast universe. You can tell any number or types of stories in the setting.
I wouldn't have normally cared about a new Walking Dead project, even if it features THE main character. But with Terry O'Quinn in it I want to check it out at least.
I enjoyed the first few episodes of season 1, but the story kinda fell apart in the second half, with that bizarre romance being the worst offender. I'll still watch season 2 but not with high expectations.
@rabidgiantsr: Their bosses definitely don't care. The only thing they are concerned with is how many useless 30$ mounts and armor sets (which only apply per class, mind you) they can get off whales who have more money than neurons.
