New Jurassic World Film In Development, Might Be Going In A New Direction - Report

Universal Pictures is working on a new film in the Jurassic World franchise, with veteran screenwriter David Koepp on board. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp, known for his contributions to the original Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel, will be writing the script for this project.

Unnamed sources indicate that the project and screenplay are both already "far enough along… in a well-liked shape" that there is the potential of a possible 2025 release.

No director has been appointed yet. However, reports suggest that Frank Marshall, the experienced producer of the Jurassic World trilogy, will be returning as a producer, alongside Patrick Crowley. Steven Spielberg, the mastermind behind the original Jurassic Park, will serve as executive producer through his Amblin Entertainment banner.

Details about the storyline are still under wraps, but sources from The Hollywood Reporter suggest that the project aims to usher in a "new Jurassic era." This potentially suggests a departure from previous narratives, and possibly excluding or minimizing characters played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, as well as the beloved trio from the original Jurassic Park--Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.

Elsewhere in the franchise, Saber Interactive recently announced Jurassic Park: Survival at The Game Awards 2023, a first-person game closely tied to the events of the original Spielberg film. Starring InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, the game unfolds the day after the 1993 Jurassic Park movie, featuring reactive dinosaurs that players must navigate using distractions and stealth. The game--which hasn't revealed its release date yet--is confirmed for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 platforms.
