OP, I am in the same boat. I have a high end gaming laptop (M18X 2760QM, 8gig 1600ram, 2 580SLI, ect). I don't have much time for a Vita per say but bought one anyways since I like shiny new technology.

Rule out the Phone because i have a iphone 4s and real portable gaming sucks on it outside of very casual apps. The Vita is a really legit, well built gaming system. The screen, the grahpics, the launch lineup.....I don't regret it at ALL and I was on the fence until I picked it up. Once you get used to the features....you will love it.

You sound like your on my wavelength dude, smartphone gaming pretty much sucks. i just don't know how i'm gona feel if i buy one. forgot to mention I've got a ps3 as well so if remote play works out ill certainly want one. i had a quick session with one at gamestation and was really impressed. I've had 2 psp's before and really enjoyed them. but this was before i got my full time job, laptop, smartphone so I'm still working out what i really want.

Well, it depends on your use and available funds. I wouldn't strap yourself for one, especially if your OK with your laptop. You could just hold off and get one at the end of the year. I'm sure the games at least will be more plentiful and cheaper, if not the system itself. I definitely wouldn't just go and impulse buy it. I bought it basically because I had the available funds and was looking for a better portable gaming experience than I have currently. Vita gives me that console feel on the go literally, regardless of remote play which is also a bonus. My laptop is usually reserved for an RTS or strategy game which I still love to get into. I dont much care for shooters or racing or action games on it though. My PSP Go is great but the analog stick feels like its rubbing my skin off. Seriously, its the reason I don't play it more. After an extended period of PSP Go gaming, I feel like I've been rubbing my thumb on concrete. Takes a day or two to stop feeling that way -ArchAngeL-777-

Cheers for your advice man, I am happy with my laptop. i do have the money to get one now with a few games/ a memory card/ case, its just im tearing myself apart over it. I really should just focus on saving for my apprenticeship ( gona need as much money as possible as ill be living away from home ) its just everytime i see a vita being advertised it drives me mad, i even had a go of one at the weekend i was amazed how it played. i guess if i can resist until ive settled into my apprenticeship/ new location i should then decied if i have the funds available for one.

Hi fellow gamespot users,

As the title suggests i currently have a gaming laptop ( mid/high tier one at that ) and a htc sensation xe ( although i hardly play games on it as touchscreen games generally suck ) and was thinking about getting a vita ?

everyone ive spoken to says its a stupid idea as ive got my laptop to get my gaming fix while away from home ( which i am on 4 nights out of 7 ) and I'm struggling myself to see where it would fit in. I've got my own van so i could'nt use it while commuting to work, won't play it at work as im an engineer and get limited breaks, while at home/away im often on my laptop apart from when in the toilet then on my phone. I really want one, but cant justify having one and really should be saving money for when i start my new apprenticeship. HELP ! what do you guys think ? should i vote with my head or heart ?

Hi again GameSpot posters!

So yeah, basically is it worth buying (I would be building mine form buying the seperate components) a gaming computer. My main question is financially derived, as the question was posed to me by my father "What?! £1200 for a computer?!?" it got me thinking...

Okay, firstly here is my desired build: (Prices are from novatech.co.uk - awesome place btw for UK people)

MOBO: Asus sabertooth P67 - £153

CPU: i5 2500k - £168

GPU: GTX 580 (don't know which one to get) - £365

PSU: Novatech 800W - £40

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4GB x 2 - £90 (for both)

Monitor: Novatech nVision pro 22" monitor (displays in 1920 x 1080)

Optical drive: Samsung Blu-ray - £46

HDD: OCZ Agility 3 SATA III SSD (Solid State) - £80

Sound Card: Asus Xonar DS - £37

Cooling: Lots of fans and an Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 Pro CPU cooler for around about - £40 (CPU cooler is £25)

Case: Who knows.... but Scout Storm looks pretty interesting, but I know cases can be found on eBay and other places... add £40 maybe...

TOTAL = £1232 approx.

So this may or may not be the absolutely most efficient way of going about building a PC but that is more or less irrelevant unless I can slice the price in half. I say this because console gaming has progressed to such a level as it's almost indistinguishable graphically from PC gaming (yes, PC gamers CAN gloat about better visuals generally. *GENERALLY* - Cough*MGS4*Cough) but costs a fraction of the price. PS3's cost about £250 360s are slightly less. I have a PS3 and I enjoy playing it, and even if I bought the aforementioned beast of a PC above then I would probably still occasionally dip in and out of PS3 gaming, but I do, saying all of that above, love the gaming experience of a PC - complete immersion into the "reality" of the game. I'm not very wealthy at all, but i could sell my dell xps for about £500 on ebay (an older model) and could probably afford the computer soon. OR i could buy a guitar or get a driving license or a multitude of more "productive" things as my parents would say.

Opinions? (Oh yeah on a side note if you know any ways to either reduce the cost of the build or improve the quality without heightening the cost please post em!)

Maximus_Fett
Dedicated console gamer for ages here......until i got a gaming laptop and my ps3 has'nt been switched on once. the way pc games immerse you into the game with there amazingly better graphics and awesome sound is worth the capital alone and when you consider just the other day i got every single GTA inc DLC for £5 off steam when the DLC alone is £20 in the shops for console, i say the savings will save you more in the long run.

I've tried nearly everything, but no matter what I do this computer still plays far below my expectations. My friend bought a almost exact duplicate of my PC and the performance difference we're getting is staggering. While I can't even play Skyrim on anything above high, my friend can max the game out with full AA turned on and keep at 60FP/s at all times. This goes for many other games too.

My computer specifications are...

GPU: Sapphire Toxic HD 6950 2GB
CPU: Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.20 GHZ
RAM: 8GB DDR3 RAM. 2 X 4GB.
PSU: Corsair, TX650.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Things I've tried so far...

1) Checked and changed RAM timings.
2) Ran a full CHKDSK.
3) Full defragmentation.
4) Installed the latest drivers on all software.
5) Tried older ATi drivers.
6) Checked for overheating, the computer constantly remains cool.
7) Full system virus scan.
8) Tried 3D Mark, said my computer was running optimally.
9) Checked if the CPU and GPU were running at full clock speeds in games, they were.
10) Flicking the switch on my GPU which apparently unlocks more shaders.
11) Overclocked CPU to 3.8 GHZ, no FP/s change.
12) Put my RAM into the DIMM 1 & 2 slots on motherboard when they was in 3 & 4.
13) Resocketed everything on my motherboard.
14) Checked all power connections, everything essential is plugged in.

As you can see, I've tried a lot of things, and it's simply driving me insane that nothing has made a lick of difference. I should be able to max out games like Team Fortress 2 with absolutely no problems. Especially since my friend with a near identical rig can. The only thing I've yet to try is a full OS re-installation, which I will get around to once I find the disc...

Please, if anyone can give any suggestion or simply try to help me figure out the source of this problem I will be very grateful.

Oh yeah, and one of the DVi ports on my GPU seems unresponsive, not to mention I get constant screen tearing with just about everything I do.

If he is a actual mate who lives just around the corner ? ask a big favour off him and simply swap components until the fault goes - sounds simple to me, but I don't know how easy that would be. but it might be the quickest way to diagnose the fault. BTW i know its not the same, but here's where my idea came from- In work if an electric forklift truck comes in with a fault the quickest way after the primary checks is to swap the electrical cards / main components over and see of the fault follows.

hi guys please tell me what u think of the laptop in the link... just ordered it... i think its really well priced for the components in there.

(i know, i know, PC WORLD (rolls eyes)) but the deal seemed really good to me, plus theres a potential £50 off as well :)

when i was looking for a gaming laptop i saw the exact same model, did my research and there was alot of unhappy people with hardware failure even thought the laptops were new. my acer has the exact same specs but with less ram (4gb ddr3) and no blu-ray and got it for £480. ( £550 with a 3 year warranty ) hope you have no issues with it though. And IMO laptop gaming is the best for someone always on the move especially like me where I don't spend much time at home.

ASUS N55SF

- Intel Core i5-2430M @ 2.40 Ghz (2 CORES)

- 6 GB RAM

- NVIDIA GT 555M GDDR5 2GB VRAM

- Windows 7 Home Premium

- 640 GB HDD

- 14.0 Colorshine Display

ASUS A53SV

- Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 Ghz (4 CORES)

- 6 GB RAM

- NVIDIA GT 540M DDR3 2GB VRAM

- Windows 7 Home Premium

- 640 GB HDD

- 15.6 Display

The only big difference between the two is the processor and the video card.

Which of them is better for gaming? Need help ASAP. Thanks.

Seconaid

First as it has the better graphics card, the second one would be better for someone hoping to do rendering or a heavily cpu based task.

Jesus..Nice spelling and grammar. What are you, 5 years old? Lol. OT: Use something better than either of those two options for a gaming PC.

I hope you feel big and manly now you bully. For all you know it might be a kid or someone with dyslexia or some sort of learning disability. Major disapprove of your words and hope you get a ban. and dear op not all people on GS are like this guy, so just ignore him and the other bully's. your going to struggle making a decent gaming rig with those parts in my opinion, best to give us all your budget and some cool people on GS will no doubt lay you out with a list of parts to make one.
