That depends, there are many FANTASY RPG's in different styles. My favorit of this year is the enhanced edition of "The Witcher 2: Assasins of Kings". But perhaps you are in the mood for a J-RPG, I have just bought "Tales of the Abyss" for 3DS which I can recommend for all fans of good J-RPG's. For the toughest challenge ever, there's "Dark Souls".

Step 1. Use a controller Step 2. Download the resolution patch Step 3. Now enjoy one of the greatest games ever madedeershadow

I wouldn't call it the BEST EVER, but definatly worth spending time on, this is a healthy challenge for all HARDCORE gamers.

Oh, you missunderstand, I never said they were bad, I love the Mass Effect series but I also believe that they are Hybrids of 2 genres, RPG and 3rd Person shooter.

When ever I review an RPG I use a system I call. S 3 C I stands for Story Combat Crafting Customization All. TRUE RPGs incorporate ALL of these features, if they do not then they are hybrids like Mass Effect or the current Final Fantasy games. To me a REAL RPG has you spending at least 30% of the game in the menu or inventory, customizing your characters and trading items. I realize that not everyone prefers this, but that is the basis of an RPG, while things like branching storylines are not RPG exclusive.

I recommend The Witcher 1 and 2. European developers are more than just catching up, they are tramping down many western and eastern developers, who like SquareEnix seem to have run put of good ideas, or Bioware who seem to have sold out. The Witcher 2 has the Best story and graphics of Rpgs toddy. Either that or SKYRIM.

Red Dead Redemption tooke me 21 hours to complete, and that's WITHOUT ALL of the side quests. It actually boarders the line between Action/Adventure & RPG.

Get Dragon's Dogma. This game has every element a fantasy RPG should have, at least to some degree. It is worth the money.

I to love this game, but the ending will be hard for many people to get the hang of, kind of like with Final Fantasy XIII-2. But I don't think that these complecated endings are having any greater success with the general gaming community, most want something simple, like in Skyrim or Dragon Age Origins.
