Here is what I found and it seems to work. FAVC, it has to be used with another program, so that is two programs, right there. However it cannot handle flv files, so I got another one called handbrake. It converts almost anything to mkv or mp4, but for some reason, MKVtoVOB, gave me a muxing error. I will keep MKVtoVOB just because I like avi files better then VOB/DVD type of files, and FAVC coverts files to VOB/DVD. Even know MKVtoVOB is callt to VOB, it convert to avi too. Af far as I know FAVC can only convert to VOB/DVD, but the PS3 handle that with no problem. However the file is usually much larger.

[QUOTE="cometflash"]

I got MKV files FLV files and some AVI files that I would like to convert in a way the PS3 can read. Some AVI files play just fine, but for some reason, some does not. I got MKVtoVOB which works great with MKV files, but that is all it handles. Preferable would be great if there was a single pice of software that would convert many files to PS3 compatible files.

I was more interesting to see where you got your info from. But anyway, I have not for any moment discuss "illegal movies and/or pirating" in this site, so this thread is with no means have broke any site rules. But I'm sure you are aware that making accusations without any proof is illegal, and not just on this site.

Where did you get the information in which 95% of the time a avi file would be illegal? Besides I'm asking for software and not for illegal files. I know there is software available that do the job, some paid, some freeware, the freeware that I have encounter so far has not worked. I'm not here to talk about avi files, or any files for that matter, I'm interesting on the software.

convertxtodvd do the job but the result in lost picture quality. It doesn't handle 720, or 1080p files to well. I'll keep trying.

I tried the DIVX converter, the only file I could add was the avi, but it pop up a message saying the file is not supported. Grrr I'll try the convertxtodvd now, hope it work for me.

I got that as when I had to install to get the PS3 to accept divx files. I never use the converter, and I did not look through the files seems I downloaded, I did not thought about it. OK now the question is, how do I set the converter so it converts to a file that the PS3 can recognize? I know the PS3 can read DIVX, and AVI, but some DIVX and AVI files I have for some reason the PS3 does not support.

I'm in the hope somebody here already did that, go through software and found a good one. I think is a very good possibility. I though it was worth to ask before start hunting for one myself.
