I downloaded the floppy option but I can't install because it isn't 64-bit compatible. What version do you have? I thought I'd give the binary file a whirl but I'm not holding out hope. That being the case, if it doesn't work, does anyone have any suggestions of another program that WILL run in Vista 64?

Scratch the remark about Memtest. My computer must have directed me to .com instead of .org....I couldn't have messed up!

Vista 64-bit - I've not had this happen before, nor have I had any trouble (knock on wood) other than the first MoBo arriving DOA.

Crucial told me to run the test from memtest.org but I sure can't find it on the site. It seems to be a bunch of links for that crapping software that offers free scans but you need to buy to fix...and those I worry about what they leave behind!

I'll look for that manual - had it right here but now can't put my hands on it...much confusion with trying to figure out what the hell is going on and dragging this that and the other out, as well as switching out cable boxes, sitting on hold with TimeWarner, etc....

Thanks for replying.

I built my computer about 2 1/2 months ago and "stuff" is starting to happen. (Must be a Mercury retrograde!) Aside from the fact that one of my speaker jacks (Right Front so pretty important!) has gone belly-up, I'm now having a memory hardware error.

Yesterday I started getting the error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Means nothing. Of course, MS tells you something is wrong then refers you to your computer manufacturer without any details or direction. Considering more and more people are building their own computers, MS needs to catch up and be a bit more responsive to us. Anyway, I Google'd it but it didn't really help much. Could be a bad memory stick, bad motherboard, bad other peripheral. In the meantime, I did email Crucial (Ballistix, 2x2G DDR2 800). They said that the BIOS needs to be manually set for these and, if incorrect, could be corrupted. They'll RMA and replace. But there is more....

1) Wednesday I got a cable box for this setup. Seemed simple enough as I'd already had the cable running to the tuner...just another pit stop. Anyway, the lag time on it was atrocious. Since the other box I'd picked up (HD for an HD TV) was not working at all, I put in a call to TimeWarner. Of course, the CS person couldn't tell me much and didn't quite understand when I was telling her it would take 40 seconds to 4 minutes for a channel to change. She then says I'm going to check your connection. I said there wasn't a connection issue inasfaras I could receive the channels I was supposed to. Too late. I went to check on the status of the other box that was rebooting and, when I came back to this, the computer was dead. Dead as in nothing happened when I hit the power button or turned the power off and on. She knows nothing about computers but someone next to her told me to unplug the computer, plug it back in and restart. I did that and everything seemed to come up fine. However, as I said, NOW I have a member hardware issue that I didn't before. Does anyone have any experience with this as to whether or not this could have caused a problem?

2) The second part is working with the BIOS. I've gone in and can't find anyplace where I can check the voltage and latency timing. I do have PC Wizard and it shows both at 2.2V but one with the right timing (4-4-4-12) and the other at (5-5-5-18). I don't know how PC Wizard works for this so I don't know if it is showing what it is set and running as or if it is showing what it should be. It does say something about Peak..... Anyway, where do I find the Ram Voltage and Latency Timing for my Ram in Vista? I also need to be able to adjust it if necessary.

My next step is to remove the memory stick one by one to see if that changes anything. Just putting it off 'til last because it is time consuming.

Does anyone have any experience with running their monitor as a TV and hooking up cable (TimeWarner)? I brought in my main box (DVR) from the LR to see if it would work better than the one I picked up but it is having all sorts of fits. With it I can only get the lower tier of channels, nothing in the upper (which I could with the new one). I think some of that issue is Windows Media Center. Some of the issue is that dumb son-of-a-b**** who invented the IR Blaster, which I have NEVER found to work, and the lack of working prevents me from accessing the channels on the cable box through MC. Naturally, the CS tech didn't have a clue what an IR Blastesr even was.

Specs: Q6700, 500G 7200.11 HD, Crucial Ballistix 2x2G DDR2 800, eVGA 8800GTS 512mb, Dell 2408 monitor, Hauppauge 1800 TV Tuner, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 cable box....anything else??? -)

Here it is several weeks later and same issue. I've gone along without issue until a week ago when, for 2 days, the reception was spotty. Without doing a thing, it would suddenly go streaky and then, several minutes or hours later, it would snap into place. After that 2 days of tearing my hair out, it started working again. Tonight it has started up again.

Restarting has zero effect. It isn't the cable as no other TV in the house is having problems nor did it have any issue before the PC. I've noticed that it sometimes doesn't seem to agree with a couple of the games I play - Crysis, which uses Comrade...BTW, I only played once and hated (although I admired the graphics), and The Orange Box, which uses Steam. I figured there was something about the way they connect to the computer that messes with "stuff". Restarting always fixes it (closing it in Task Mgr also seems to work for TOB). Since I can't seem to fix it now, this doesn't seem to be the issue at this point.

Hauppauge hasn't gotten back to me...I've got other issues like not getting the VCR to work with it as outlined in their FAQs. (Some of that issue is the stupidity of MS and their inability to actually create a product that follows through on the promise - and this isn't a Vista bash...just a plain 'ol Microsoft bash.) I was completely ticked off to go to their site and see they now have a dual tuner that only costs a bit more. When I called Hauppauge before buying this card to explain what I wanted and to ask about what I should get, no mention was made of this dual tuner coming out, just pushing some stupid box thing that wasn't even what I was asking about. I would have waited. Now I've got something that works most of the time but doesn't serve my purpose. I also find the WinTV inadequate and am using the Windows Media Center instead. It is also disappointing to read Hauppauge FAQs and have them recommend Beyond TV and Sage TV to make the thing work - both of which are premium programs. Seems that WinTV is a bit overpriced when so little seems to actually work!

Basically, anyone with the Hauppauge HVR - have you had similar issues? Do you have problems with the reception? If so, how do you resolve it? Do you have a VCR attached to the PC? If so, how did you get that to work? As this is now my sole TV and I'm a TV addict, I would truly, truly appreciate any help or insight anyone might have!

I've just started playing Dreamfall TLJ and I've a question...there is an open book icon that keeps appearing in the upper left corner. I've no idea what it is or how to access it or even if it is a sign that I'm supposed to be doing something else.

Can someone let me know what the heck this is and what, if anything, I should do about it?

Thx! :)

Well, I discovered that multiple video capture isn't supported so you can't webcam, watch TV, hook up a camcorder....at the same time. Media Center my foot!

Anyway, I found a freeware program that lets you do this called SplitCam. Unfortunately it is not Vista 64 compatible and there is no answer as to whether or not it ever will be. So, does anyone here no of a different software program that will let you split out the video capture driver to multiple sources AND is Vista 64 compatible?

Thx.

That is it exactly! Several people expressed interest in the one earlier and obviously they got to it way before I did because it is now backordered until June... :(

Thank you for finding this for me - I looked and looked and...well, you get the picture, and, for whatever reason, couldn't find it.

Yay!

Just as an FYI - I've got a CPU/RAM gauge in the Windows Sidebar and, while the RAM usage generally runs around 40%, I'm surfing the web and watching WinTV and my usage is up to 54%.

I have Vista Home Prem 64bit, Intel Q6700 and 2x2G Crucial Ballistix - and I'm so glad to have spent the few extra bucks for 4G and not having to max out my RAM! Even at 40% I want a bigger cushion.

A few weeks ago, someone had shown their PC on this site and it included this really great drawer from NewEgg for keeping disks, polishing cloths, tools, etc. Unfortunately, every single thing I've tried on the search engine at NewEgg AND even an email to NewEgg for assistance, has yielded nothing. Would someone mind letting me know where I can find this or giving me a link? It wasn't very expensive - under $10 - black, fit in a bay...

Thx in advance for the help!
