What about users that only just use PSN cards to buy stuff from the network are those people like myself going to be alright?.

The e-mail, username, passwords, and security question answers you used to sign up for psn have been compromised. If you used the same password and security questions for anything else the go change them NOW.

[QUOTE="cj_simmons"]and yes I was an idiot who used the same password for everything so I would remember it.ilikedrit
That's completely retarded dude. Sorry, but maybe you deserved what was coming at you.

I agree that it was retarded, but no one deserves to have their info stolen just because someone wants to play on a computer all day instead of getting a job and earning money like the rest of society

Updated the original post. They found no fraudulent charges (thank god). They basically just told me to keep a close eye on it and reset my online banking info. And yes I know using the same password was retarded, that's why I called myself an idiot. P.s. for those saying I'm just a guy using scare tactics, check my posting history and you'll see I'm a big fan of Sony, and until I noticed stuff going wrong with my own accounts, I was actually defending Sony.

This means that you most probably lost your account too and all the purchases that were entitled to it? Because I'm a PS+ user and I have a lot of stuff in that account for me to lose. Man, I'm sorry this happened to you. It's really messed up how a company like Sony had so little security measures and as a result, now thousands of people may have lost their accounts and CC info.

campbell1874

i think he is more bothered about his bank account just now.

Am lucky that i just updated my credit card and havent updated any of my online accounts yet. I think i wont update them just yet.

TC have you gave Sony a phone yet?

Not yet but I will. I going to wait until I check my bank info when it opens.

I'm not a PS+ member and the only game on my account that I would miss would be FFVII. However, if I lost all my trophies, game data, levels in Call of Duty, etc... that would suck big time.

*I AM NOT A TROLL, and I AM NOT AN XBOX FANBOY. (if anything Im a PS3 fanboy)

*If you check my posting history, you will see that I have been somewhat definding Sony through the PSN outage.

When Sony posted on the PlayStation blog that personal information may have been compromised, I really didn't think much of it. Sure, it's kinda a big deal, but in the back of my mind I just knew that it wouldn't happen to me. Isn't that what we keep telling ourselves when something bad happens. Besides, they claimed that there was no evidence of credit card information being compromised.

Well, I logged in to my E-Mail account and noticed something strange. I had received several messages from Yahoo titled Failure. Apparently, someone tried sending E-Mails to everyone listed in my contacts.

Thankfully, the contacts listed in my Yahoo account are outdated, so the e-mails never went through. At the bottom of the message sent by Yahoo is a copy of the message the person who accessed my account tried to send. It was a bunch of computer code.

I then went to my account and checked my recent login activity, and sure enough there were three logins that were not by me. Two were from Vietnam and one was from California (I live on east coast U.S.).

I immediately changed my Yahoo password and that sign-in seal thing Yahoo has.

Having my e-mail hacked is annoying but not that big a deal. What is a big deal, however, is that after seeing my e-mail hacked I wanted to check my online back statement just to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. Well, turns out I couldn't because my login information and security question answers for my online banking account has been changed.

There was nothing in my Yahoo account that could have given a hacker my bank information, and the only online accounts my debit card is linked to (other than online banking) is Xbox Live and PSN.

Could my e-mail have been hacked by some other means than PSN? Maybe. But to have both my online banking and e-mail hacked that close to each other when there is nothing linking the two together except PSN and Xbox live, and for it to happen right after Sony announces that my personal info may have been compromised, I have to assume that it was the result of PSN being hacked until I hear otherwise.

Yes, I was one of those stupid people who used there debit card on PSN instead of a pre-paid card, and yes I was an idiot who used the same password for everything so I would remember it.

However, Sony are the idiots who didn't have the security to stop someone from getting my name, address, e-mail, debit card number, and password.

Now I don't no if any transactions have occurred with my card yet because of the online banking problem, but I'll find out soon (my bank opens in a hour).

For anyone who read through this entire rant, thanks for listening. Also, please go check your e-mail login activity and financial records. DON'T THINK THAT IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL AND THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN TO YOU. Hopefully you will find that nothing is wrong, but it it is and you fill the need to rant, I'll listen.

UPDATE: just got back from the bank, and thankfully no charges appeared that was out of the ordinary. They reset my online banking information and told me to keep a close eye on my accounts.

[QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"] The fact that this article is from two months ago makes it pretty clear that Sony's security has been at risk all that time. I know they aren't talking about his incident in particular, but they are talking about an apparent hole in Sony's security which very well could have led up to this incident. MrSelf-Destruct

Sony's security wasn't a problem until a couple of months ago. It took hackers five years to crack the Ps3 where as accounts from World of Warcraft and XBLA get hacked all the time.

5 years you say? That's funny considering it hasn't even been on the market that long. Anway, that's their console. We're talking about the network here. Two completely different things. And the fact that the issues in that article existed 2 months ago just goes to show that Sony was a bit sloppy with their security. I'm not trying to knock 'em, but when something like that shows up on the net its time to get to work.

PS3 launched in late 2006 (I'm in U.S. think it launched 2007 in UK but not sure): 2007,2008,2009,2010, 2011 = 5 years

[QUOTE="cj_simmons"][QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"]

I was reading THIS ARTICLE just now and found this little snippet to be quite interesting:

"There is no generalized ability for hackers to grab credit cards from PSN users; only those using specially devised custom firmwares would be at risk."

According to the article the only users at risk have to be using CFW. If that's true then lol @ the hackers getting hacked.

EDIT: This is from TWO months ago!

MrSelf-Destruct

that article is from February. They are not referring to this incident.
