In terms of the information given out by SONY i think was got a got a fair response, the majority of data breaches are never reported and of the that are reported only around a third of them are done so with a "reasonable" time frame (2 months). As for the security SONY had in place, we don't know how good it was, or how it was breached -- we may never know since that sort of information generally isn't made common knowledge. All we do know is that SONY met industry standards (PCI-DSS compliment) and that it is possible for SONY to improve its security and that is what they are doing.
