10 and 7 are important numbers. 10 because it's going to be a classic game that everyone should play if you're remotely interested in the industry.
7 is important because that actually influences sales. Dev bonuses ride on Metacritic scores. 7 is also the point where you see people start to question a purchase.
So, on the surface it sounds trite to care about one point. The reality is that one point matters a lot to the industry.
I wanted to see if that were true or not and found her on open critic to see where she's at in the grand scheme of things...Red Dead 2 she gave a 9 instead of 10 which is frankly tragic.
Last of us 2 was an 8...Are you kidding me? An 8? Jesus...That will likely be game of the year. It's an ugly ending, but it was objectively one of the greats.
Then Death Stranding, the ultimate walking simulator was a 9. It's an 8 at best (realistically, unless you REALLY like droll boring confusing plots, it's a 6).
Then there's this.
It's pretty clear she's not objective in her ratings.
It seems like anything above a middle school reading level immediately loses a point for having complex characters.
@marineclark: Honestly, skip the Gamestop reviews at this point. I like their news format so I come back every now and again. But they've really dropped the ball with their "edgy" reviews.
GTA V is the best selling video game of all time, and arguably the best video game of all time. It got a 9. Why? Because a bad man was bad.
This reviewer clearly let her agenda get in front of her understanding the underlying material. Thus, a 7 instead of an easy 8 or 9.
@st_monica:> Her critique of CP2077 is very sincere and valid
No, it's not. It's trying to be edgy commentary. Instead it's just hollow blather about how she was offended by the obscenity of it.
If you get into the source material it makes the vulgarity make sense.
It's a very immature review with an agenda.
It's also part of a pattern of why people shouldn't trust Gamestop reviews any more. They're handing out 9s to half assed cutesty indie games, and giving things like this low scores because they're adult.
Dunno. I guess I'm not Gamespot's demographic any more.
