@bbq_R0ADK1LL: GOW always had more satisfying combat due to the engagement of brutality and the ability to grapple. It is stale now, but back when it was fresh it was easily the best combat in the genre. The new GOW is once again evolving and revolutionizing the genre in more ways than combat this time. Ironically DMC and Ninja Gaiden both started to copy GOWs style of engagement and set pieces.
@brhuebr: GOW always had other things besides combat like traversal gameplay, grappling and puzzles. It never had the deepest combat, but I am glad to see the added variety and options in the new GOW. I agree with him on the old games today, but not back then. Things change and what was the standard or good is now old and stale. Playing GOW3 I agree with him now, but playing GOW3 originally I would have disagreed with him. I always felt that DMC was shallow and had nothing but combos.
@madtownjeremy: He has not played the game so he has no idea about how strategic and varied the game is. No two people play the game alike as each person can really have their own style and tactics. That's what makes the combat so free and great. The usual fanboy argument is to downplay a game they do not have access to and call it a rip off lol.
The combat was great for its time, but it did get stale. I went back to play God of War 3 on the PS4 and it was not as good as I remembered from playing it originally on the PS3. The third person ca,era was needed as it allowed them to create new combat features and improve the overall game. No one should be upset about the changes as it is a better, varied and deeper game. Old fans and new comers alike will enjoy this game and be satisfied. Growing the game combat and world wise a well as the fan base is the perfect combination.
