@sellingthings: I'm pretty sure that you didn't have to reply back to my comment, so technically you are wasting your own time.

I'm not sure what your problem is, but you should probably just drop the whole thing.

To summarize, I said that I haven't had to replace a battery, you asked me if I haven't had to replace a battery, I confirmed it for a second time, then you accused me of wasting your time.

@sellingthings: that's generally what "never had to replace a CMOS battery" means...

I'm not sure how that can be interpreted in any other way, but whatever.

I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, just hasn't ever happened to me.

@sellingthings: I have never had to replace a CMOS battery on any of my PlayStation consoles, or any console actually. If it does die then just deal with it, or buy a new one. Would be cheaper to suck it up and deal with it tho.

My PS2 is 16 years old and the CMOS battery still works, so it really depends on various factors.

Why not downloads for games?

I'm just very confused why they wouldn't build in a micro SD card slot so that you can have whatever capacity you want and then have an online store where all games are bought and downloaded from.

This really is about VR and the new AMD Polaris GPUs are coming out later this year using a 14nm process.

Microsoft and Sony could have paid AMD an insane amount of money to keep their chips using 28nm coming, but they opted to just piggyback on AMD and save money by moving towards 14nm.

The new process allows the chips to be far faster, so at least Sony decided to make them faster, which lead to a the whole PlayStation 4.5 thing. I would assume Microsoft will do the same thing.

Going forward, anytime that AMD or NVidia do a die-shrink then new consoles will come out.

So, new consoles will probably come out every 3 or so years now.
