I disagree. This is a very emotionally-draining story that even the title suggests you better get ready to be sad for the entire game. I'll watch a let's play video of it and that's all because I don't want to play a game and only be sad, just like I avoid movies like this. People watched the videos and decided that it might be a great experience, it was probably too sad -- too much like real life -- to escape into a game.
The Walking Dead game and Life is Strange were basically movies, fantastic and fun to play and also had sad parts yet they made the devs a lot of money.
@Ayato_Kamina_1 @astralislux Sure, gamers have lost trust, but gamers will play a game that's well-made. If the mechanics of the game weren't broken, the offline discussion would have quieted to a low grumble while everyone was playing.
Online or offline, the game mechanics are broken and cannot be fixed without starting over. If they want to save the franchise, go back to the start and work on SimCity 6.
The current studio simply turned the game into true 3D after they bought the rights from Kalypso/Take 2. Whether they can produce a new game from the series from scratch is absolutely untested. They need to bring in some serious creative heavyweights to make this work because this is a studio that is focused on the technicals, not the creative side.
