Wii = Unique gameplay Xbox360 = A year's headstart on the competition gives it the most refined online experience (for now), better games (for now), and a good chance to come away as the winner of this generation of consoles PS3 = Better hardware? (I'm no hardware expert so I could be wrong), a still-formidable lineup of exclusive games (the FF series in particular will probably woo a large group of gamers who enjoy RPGs), and of course, the fact that it was the winner of the last generation. I don't think software companies will be jumping ship from Sony because of the fanbase it has built up. (Even if it is "harder" to design games for as some rumors claim)

Gotta agree with Dingo! I too really enjoyed FF7 and FF8 on the PSX. Can't remember why I never moved on to 9 and forward haha

psyum
hahaha...I will definitely consider that! I'm not too high on the Wii right now but then again, I haven't really seen/played with one. (I'm from the school of thought that says videogames are best played nearly comatose on the couch instead of moving around ;) ) Ultimately though, I'm a big fan of sports games and eye-popping graphics so I think somewhere along the line, I'd like to end up with an Xbox360 or PS3.

I had originally wanted an N64 but somehow ended up with a PSX because it was being offered as a Costco bundle. (This was when both systems were pretty well-established) Turned out to be the best decision ever! haha Definitely enjoyed the PSX a lot more than the N64. I had every intention of going for a PS2 but wound up getting an Xbox as a gift so I went with that system for that particular generation. And now finally, one more decision to make. While I did enjoy the Xbox, I had some problems with "dirty/damaged disc errors" recently. (any new games and even some of my old ones present with that error) After hearing all the horror stories with the initial releases of the Xbox360 and the quiet/smooth operation of the PS3, I am now leaning towards the PS3. But seeing as I'm currently broke anyway, there's no rush to make that decision :) Gonna lurk around the messageboards a while longer and wait for some of the nicer games to come out on both systems before spending that dough!

I think it's too hard to call. I really wasn't expecting the Wii to experience this much success but its unique idea has given it a lot of support. The Xbox360 had that all-important head start in terms of getting its console and some decent games to the market. But then again, Sony was the industry leader last generation, so I don't expect their market share to just evaporate. Maybe we'll see a three-way tie? :)

[QUOTE="madhatter73"]The early launch systems had some problems, Microsoft admitted and has replaced many of them for free. For months now the newer ones have been on market and show MUCH improved stability. Just don't hook an unlicensed Intercooler onto it.

Nice! That's pretty re-assuring! Out of curiousity, are intercoolers even necessary for the system?

Are the newer Xbox360s relatively free of defects? (The occasional lemon here and there is obviously unavoidable)

Did any of you consider system stability as a purchasing factor?

I started gaming pretty late and jumped onto the PlayStation bandwagon almost as the PS2's were coming out. I guess getting a system when it was so well-established left me with little chance of getting a lemon. Absolutely loved the PSX!

I however chose to jump to Xbox as my next console. I got one of the first generations and to be honest, it worked fantastically for a good 2-3 years. I've noticed recently, however, that it has trouble playing some of the newer games (it gives me a lot of "Dirty/Damaged Disc Errors"). Some of my older games even have difficulty running. I attributed this to the system aging and didn't really give it a second thought.

But upon perusing these boards, it seems the Xbox360 has had a few problems with its stability/cooling/noise/etc... Granted, these cases are probably a minority out of the many, many units sold but it still concerns me a bit due to my experience with the original Xbox.

Did any of you consider that as a factor when purchasing a next-gen system? Originally, I was leaning towards an Xbox360 as I enjoyed my Xbox experience but reports of the quieter/stabler/smoother PS3 are now making me rethink my decision. I guess I'm unique in that many of the exclusives won't really sway my decision. I'm not a big fan of first person shooters and I haven't really enjoyed an RPG since FF8. Most of the games I enjoy are multiplatform sports games (probably making me a fraud of a gamer ;) )

Thanks!
