For those still having trouble connecting and/or are missing trophies, the instructions are:

1. Disable and re-enable internet connection, test it and set the clock.
2. Connect to PSN
3. If any trophies don't show up, start the game, exit and resync the trophies. For some games, you might have to play for a minute or so and then exit.

Quick update:

1. Signed in works. I restarted just to check and it signed on again.
2. My Trophy collection is intact.
3. My date was set to 2/28/10. I had it update via the Internet and it updated without error.
4. No firmware update necessary.

Seems like the debacle is over.
