in my opinion you should buy a Q6600 with a 4870 card not x2 i think 4870 single will be enough because in just 1 or 1.5 year dx11 will be released then you will need a dx11 card so go for 4870 and Q6600 quad core.
well i am having dual boot system with XP service pack 3 (32bit) and vista service pack 1 (64bit) and there is not much difference between both of them and also vista 64bit runs smoothly as xp 32 or 64. so if you have vista 64bit instead of 32bit then you can see the difference. as far as gaming is concern i got neraly same performance in both operating systems and also i am running vista with all visual effects and no problem comparing to xp on my 2gb ram.
