all those cards are Med end cards with the exception of the Hd4850 which would be Mid/high end, it is also by far the best card there.

hmm i think your wrong, the 9600gt would be a med end card, the 8800gt and 4850 would be a high end card, and something like a gtx 280 would be a very high end card lol. But yeah your right 4850 is the best choice there

You can get GTX280 for ~350€ in Europe. I wouldn't call 350€ card very high end card.

What is with those horrible prices? Those are all $50 or more too expensive over their standard prices.

The $ is US currency. Since this board is based in the US, if one is from one of the two countries that uses a similar currency one is obligated to suffix the currency amount as such: $100 CAN or $100 AUS. Without such a suffix all $ amounts are presumed to be in US Dollars.

the guy probably is in US currency but from what you said thats a stupid way to make assumptions, you cant always assume someone uses proper grammar, suffixes and what not especially on a forum.

Well anyways these would be the correct prices (give or take some differences and not going with anything silly like a 1GB card):

8800GT 512MB 256Bit - $150

9600GT 1GB 256Bit - $120
note this price is for the 512MB as 1GB on this card is inane.

3870 512MB 256Bit - $150

4850 512MB 256Bit - $185

As one can see the 8800GT is still the best bang for the buck, but the 4850 is the superior performer and probably the better buy as one will soon see price drops on it if one can wait a month or two.

I don't need best-bang-for-buck, I have enough to buy any of those cards, but from what it seems I guess I'll get the 4850. But, if that's not available, it won't be for a long time, so what would a second choice be?

And the prices are in rupees converted to $ for your understanding...

And I thought Australians got the biggest shaft when it came to tacking on cost of importation... I don't know if there's much you can do but try to get your card from wherever you can whose $ to Rupees converts closer to the prices I listed.
