Look at this latest example:

These Two Ubisoft Games Are Shutting Down, Here's When and Why

Ubisoft is pulling the plug on these two PC games.

If this isn't pure click-bait, I don't know what is. You know what I do when I see such titles? I don't click it. I open another tab, search for the mentioned news and read it on another non-click-baity website.

The words that get me the most are "these", "this", "here", "when", "why", "how", etc. The title is already a click-bait and yet you throw in those words to achieve the highest click-bait combination. You don't want to give away the news in the title? Ok, but don't treat us like idiot children. "These" in that sentence is COMPLETELY unnecessary. Same goes for the entire "here's when and why" part. The title would still be click-bait without them though.

Are these "articles" still written by Ed, or what was his name? Can't remember because I can't remember the last time I clicked on such titles.

Gamespot is still my main go-to game website, but these practices are getting utterly annoying.

EDIT: Yes, a lot of websites do it, but surely Gamespot can be a bit more professional than this.

I'm not sure but I think all this started about 7-10 days ago, maybe more.

I disabled pretty much every add-on that I could. I also disabled IE's built-in ad blocking TPL lists. None helped; in fact, and this is very strange, disabling flash actually causes CPU usage to go UP.

Also, if I let the page sit there for a while, it tends to cause IE to reload the page with a message "something went wrong, etc. please reload". Can't remember the exact message.

Here is a video I recorded. The first site is for reference, and as you can see, 0-1% usage (This is true for all the websites that I regularly visit). Then I open gamespot and it idles around 8-12%. This is with flash enabled.

Loading Video...

I also generated a UI responsiveness report with IE's F12 tool.

@DigitalDame said:

Hi there, let me see if I can better understand what it is you're searching for. Please answer the following:

  • What are you hoping to find with the search credentials you're putting into the system?
  • Are you using any extensions or adblocking software?

I'm hoping to find a consistent search results page that doesn't change with each subsequent refresh.

Yes, the top results apparently do not change position but the bottom ones certainly do. I specifically took screenshots from the bottom of page 1 to show that.

I'm using IE11 on windows 8.1 64-bit with no adblocking on gamespot in this case.

Here, I captured a video clearly showing what's going on.

Loading Video...

As you can see, every time that I refresh, the bottom results change. I'll list the bottom four:

Search results: Red Faction: Armageddon, GoldenEye 007:Reloaded, Dead Space 3, Battlefield 4

After the first refresh: PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash, GoldenEye 007:Reloaded, Call of Duty: Ghosts

After the second refresh: Gravity Crash, Red Faction: Armageddon, GoldenEye 007:Reloaded, Dead Space 3

After the third refresh: PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash, GoldenEye 007:Reloaded, Call of Duty: Ghosts (the same order as after the first refresh)

This behavior is more apparent on page 2.

It seems that only sorting by score is affected. The other search parameters aren't important.

I got no response to my other thread and then it got locked since it was old (9 months), but the problem still exists.

I'll copy-paste the same text with some editing since nothing has changed.

"Whenever I perform a search, each time games shift around in the list and change position, or are in a wrong position.

Same search parameters, yet each time the order is different, as you can see.

Sometimes they change position while going back and forth between results pages too."

Asylum:

  • Current: Open-World, Adventure, Action, 3D
  • Missing: Third-Person

City and Origins:

  • Current: Adventure, 2D (??!!!!), Action
  • Wrong: 2D
  • Missing: 3D, Open-World, Third-Person

No wonder city and origins don't show up in some searches.

These are just a few examples that I noticed.

P.S. I appreciate all the hard work that you've done, redesigning gamespot, but such errors are not expected from a famous site like this.

First, I must thank you for fixing the genre issue in search, although it took MONTHS. Still, thanks.

As for this other issue; Whenever I do a search, each time games shift around the list and change position, or are in a wrong position.

Same search parameters, yet each time the order was different, as you can see.

Sometimes they change position while going back and forth between search results pages too.

Also, "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons" is completely out of place, considering its 8 rating and that it has no other review.

This isn't a normal behavior, is it?

Skype for Xone recently received an update that allows it to be snapped while gaming.

Also, skype uses kinect's tracking feature for video chats to track your moves and keep the camera frame on you.

Does this feature also work while snapped?

Since the previous thread got locked for no apparent reason…

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/bug-reporting-feedback-1000006/search-by-genre-is-broken-31148099/

I have to make a new one.

It’s been two months. Are you still fixing this? What's the point of having a search feature if genres are broken?

@LarkAnderson: Thank you. I'm an old GS surfer and member but not very active or vocal at that. You'd have to forgive me for my post; can't take it back now. It's just that going from an outdated but fully working website to a completely new but full of problems one isn't the best experience. Only wish the bug fixing process was a bit faster. Keep up the good work.

P.S. and thanks for fixing the IE11 issues. Stack editing is working now.

So, we are supposed to type in a genre in the box and select the one we want, right? Except that it doesn't work and instead of showing a list of genres it shows a list of games, articles, companies and all kinds of nonsense.

Yet another broken thing.

Gamespot should adopt a new tagline: "Fixing things that are not broken and break them."

EDIT: Ok, I was a bit mad. It's taking too long to fix these things. There are plus sides too. They added the "Minimum Score" and "Release Date" filters which had been two of my most wanted things in search, but with a broken genre search, they are not helping me yet.
