It will only be significant to prove those who thought the predictions guaranteed they end were wrong. Nostradamus is the equivalent of a modern day medium and simply produced a bunch of Barnham statements or cold reading in the basis that at some point something similar may happen and everyone would believe him to be the macdaddy of prediction. Its honestly ridiculous

And yes, mayan technology was primitive! they may have been excellent astronomers but when you dont have the modern day virtues of electricity and mechanical engineering with ultra clean skies, astronomy would have been an a way for them to communicate with the gods. Isn't that enough of a reason to see them as primitive? I don't see any formulated theories of star formation or galactic clusters being presented by the mega 'Mayan Space Telescope'. The whole end of the mayan calender never really gave a specific date and if i am incorrect, im pretty sure the one that was bounded around appeared to be incorrect deciphering of mayan symbolism and gave a date closer to the year 4000.

What next? Oh yeah, planetary alignment. This is probably one of the more ridiculous things that have been suggested. In comparison to the sun, the only real planet that has any real significance when it comes to gravitation in the solar system is jupiter, due to the fact its well over a hundred times more massive than all the other planets combined and is the only real planet that gives our sun a stellar 'wobble' along the axis of its centre of mass. Saying any form of planetary alignment would cause chaos for our solar system is rubbish. Not only that, but exact alignment would never effect anything. it would be like adding marbles onto a boulder and then saying the boulder has become extremely more massive. The truly annoying thing about this is that forms of planetary alignment have happened several thousand times in the earth's history including one back in May 2000.http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2000/ast30mar_1m/.

Another ridiculous one is polar shift. This too is also proven to happen around every 50,000 years by taking samples of geological evidence from the formation of mountains. People think that this will cause a mars like catastrophe but that is simply not true. Mars is far less massive than the earth with a smaller core and hence cooled far faster. Our core will continue to generate magnetic field for well over a few more million years.

I wish people would put this to bed already and still down on the 21st of december 2012 and look forward to christmas with a beer or whatever else takes your fancy.

  1. I've just started university, studying Physics for four years and hoping to one day make a difference to our understanding..
  2. I've been in a relationship for almost three years
  3. After years of consecutively poor albums, Weezer still remain as my favourite band (Though Hurley is actually decent)

Yeah.

Avatar is the obvious one, yet 2012 is screaming out simply due to the fact that its manipulating the stupidity of all those who think that everyone is going to die and making serious cash :P

Fabregas (man to replace the not so good playing torres) hurt his angle in training. Might be out of semis.

Which is good imo. Some balance since that referee gave bad card to Müller, who because of that is out of semis too.

Nohtnym

Yeah, I heard he hit some rather tough geometry.
