For RAID, do I need the Exact Brand and Product ? or Any same size HDD and Rpm will do?

Correct me if I'm wrong. If I got 3 HDD. 3X500GB

And I want just to raid0 to 2 out of 3, and leave the other 500 as my backup. I can do that right?

Is it a good idea to do that? (considering the Raid HDD Im going to use for Gaming and doing CG stuff such as 3dmax, photoshop, video editing,etc)
