Does anyone have any suggestions for communist/socialist bands? Preferably rock, hard-rock, or metal bands. I don't like death metal so I'd prefer no death metal suggestions.

What is it that interests you in these games? Are you looking for historical or sci-fi? Fancy graphics or a better system? There are also better alternatives than warhammer. It all depends on what you're looking for.

I was just thinking, are there any table-top wargames that play on an individual soldier level? Like you have a squad of soldiers but command each soldier individually through a town or something to that effect?

If you're talking table-top wargames than I would recommend Warmachine/Hoardes by Privateer Press or Flames of War.

For warhammer I would say the price is a little steep and unless you have people you know you can play with regularly I would say stay away for the most part, especially if you are going with Warhammer (fantasy) vs Warhammer 40k (distopian sci-fi).
