@Donut0389: MS couldn't even put its own browser on its own OS because government said so. Imagine Walmart not being able to sell its own cereal brand because it undercuts others brands. This is not a foregone conclusion as many assume here. It's very possible to interpret that two malls deciding between themselves what cereals can or cannot exist ON THE WHOLE OF EARTH and taxing all they let be for 30% is monopolistic.
Walmart cannot decide which cereals somebody in Madagascar, Australia and Peru can eat and tax them for 30%. Sandar Pichai and Tim Cook can.
So many people assume this will only be one case of Epic vs Apple when it can end up with a lawsuit with many developers piling up to take down Apple. Imagine Spotify, Netflix etc hopping on the bandwagon. Epic bid their time with Senate anti-trust hearings, it wasn't a coincidence that they followed those up with this. They're using the present momentum as a leverage. This is not a clear cut case of ToS, judges previously already dumped ToS saying those cannot supersede law.
@PrpleTrtleBuBum: Maybe it needs to be a free market like all the Western markets are? Imagine if there was one grocery that decided what you can and cannot buy, telling you it's for your own good. Mobile software scene is like that. It needs to be like PC. If you want to stay 'safe', hang on to Appstore. If you want to use stuff that they don't let, it's up to you.
People talk so much about freedom and then they spend half of their days on devices where Tim Cook regulates everything.
@Iemander: While I hate Epic as much as anybody possibly can, them winning this lawsuit would be the best thing to happen for software industry in this century. Apple's walled garden needs to be broken up. It's like Godzilla vs Muto. We don't need to root for Godzilla, we just need him to beat Muto.
@evilross: Apple's fault is that everybody have to pay them for being hosted and they cannot host their own stuff. It's rather the absolute walled garden rather than rate of cut. Epic wants it a free market like the PC. I assume they'll challenge Microsoft, Sony and even Nintendo later if they can win this.
@Barighm: Take your upvotes and stuff them in your pillow if that's what makes you sleep at night. I couldn't care less. If you're this touchy, you'll need a lot of them to keep you through those nights though.
@Barighm: What you and I wrote aren't exactly the same thing though. You floated a suggestion, I proposed it as a definitive claim and expanded further on that. Neither "I agree" nor "I disagree" would fit there and I'd have just upvoted if I wanted to merely agree in the first place.
