I wouldn't get IV Advance if I were you. Not because it's a bad game but it's a port that's worse in quality compared to V (lag, glitches during battle, etc).

Game-wise, V will last you a lot longer too. The job system allows for endless team-possibilities and adds great replay vallue. V has a great soundtrack and the story really isn't as bad as people say it is. I'd go as farc as saying that it's on par, if not better than IV. There are really great emotional scenes in V, don't underestimate it's story, thanks. I find IV's story vastly overrated anyway, it's really not that much better than V's.

IV is good too, but I'd say you'd be better off with a different IV port, or even IV DS if it ever gets released outside of Japan. Get V, in terms of port-quality, it beats IV Advance. Oh, and stay away from VI. If you're really that desperate to play the worst RPG ever, at least play the SNES version or so, cause the GBA version isn't that much better, and the music suffers.

It's not crappy at all, he just didn't like it. It's his big loss, doesn't have to be yours. If you want a good RPG, get FF III, simple. Or if you're unsure, try to rent it. And if you want something more modern (for FF III is a bit old-school no matter what), wait for FF IV DS (which can still take a while). But as an RPG, FF III is a DS experience that shouldn't be missed, I find.

dangit i allready played this one a lot i dont know if new graphics are enough to get me to buy it again unless they add a new version of chrono trigger packed with it but it would have to have its own case and stuff not on the same disk/card like it was on the ps1.draftrough

They are expanding the story with parts of the3/4 of the original script that was apparently left out of any FF IV version up until now. Combine that with new graphics, possibly voice-acting, a new Theme Song, improved ATB system and a system that will make you want to play the game twice and I'd say there's no need to include Chrono Trigger with this version.

FF3 wasn't so good so not going to get excited again just be bored of a oldschool rpg..

Wow, good job saying that two completely different games are the same. Final Fantasy IV is way better than Final Fantasy III, it gets rid of the horrible job system (which was done way better in FFV), the story is a lot better and doesn't revolve entirely around the crystals anymore, and the characters are actually interesting unlike FFIII. The only reason FFIII was so boring was because it was FFIII, Square Enix just chose a bad game to re-make.

No, the reason you couldn't enjoy III was becuase it's just too old for this time. That's not a flaw of the game, it's a flaw of us gamers of not being able to enjoy something less then we're used to anymore. Not something III can help. And by changing too much, it wouldn't be III anymore. Really. I have no troubles saying III was the best NES RPG ever, one that really set a lot of standards for the FF series. But you have to be willing to sacrifice those silly today's standards to be able to enjoy the game these days. It was no bad game, never was, never will be. Just old and it came too late. Yes, I blame SE for waiting so long to remake it. Not the game.

And IV's story was crystals. From the beginning to the end. A lot more crystal-based dungeons than in III DS, to be honest. =/

[QUOTE="ShadowLaguna"]I actually like FFIII DS. And FFIV DS looks exactly like FFIII except FFIV style.femme7

I liked it too, my favourite FF game after IX. IV just looks to be better in the technical department, fixing some 'flaws' the DS presentation had, like not really using both screens and some loading times (Chocobo Tales is also fully 3D and that had no loading times whatsoever).

I like how they made the character models a tad more realistic than in III, shows again they are putting a bit of effort in it. They could have easily used III's engine (which they probably are, but improved) and not bother to do any of the extras and changesthey are doing, and it still would sell. =p But at least they are giving us a lot for our money this time. Or at least they promised to give us a lot.

Wuh? FFIII didn't have any loading times, just transitions that took like a second. Since it's cartridge form... it wouldn't make sense if it loaded anyways.

Yeah well, that's what I mean. It's nothing big, I know. But if we look at SE's Chocobo Tales or the videos I've seen of FF CC RoF, both full 3D games like FF III, they don't have this and III DS had. So I just hope IV follows their example. It's also good that they are keeping the same number of enemies during battles as in the original. I found the 3 enemies per battle limit a bit of a let down, after playing through the NES version of III where enemies enjoy to pile up on you.

All small gripes that don't take away any fun from the game, or maybe a little, but I just hope IV fixes them, then SE has the perfect DS-remake formula.

Had III DS not been a succes there would be no IV DS. Turns out it has been in development for a year already and it's nearing completion. These 3D remakes are SE's new way to make cash.

But honestly, can we complain? IV Advance was hell glitchy and IV on the PSX had load times and horrible CGI opening. Now fixing all that, while expanding the story with parts of the 3/4 of the script that has never been in any version before, adding voice-acting, a new song (with lyrics) for "Theme of Love", an improved ATB battle system, 3D graphics, hopefully FMVs, making Rosa actually look beautifuland a system that will make you want to play the game twice all seem descent enough new things to make IV DS a game worth another purchase no matter if you own IV Advance.

Who knows, SE just might add bonusses that are unlocked by having IV Advance in your GBA slot (doubtful, but we can hope).
I'mglad that they are making these DS remakes of the SNES gams (and FF III). These games do deserve attention and more effort than just a simple port. They are finally putting some effort in these games, by taking at least the trouble to switch to 3D, which offers an entirely new view on the game and its story. Yes, milking, but for this game and hopefully V DS (VI DS I don't care for), it's not that bad.

Not as bad as... A FF VII-compilation or so?

But I do agree that it is the last time we see them for a while. After this, they should focus on giving IX a great remake. =p
Anyway, I'm hyped for this game, because it deserves it. A 'complete' vesion of FF IV tha twill fix the small flaws III DS had (in my eyes) is always welcome in my collection of DS games.

I don't see why he won't be able to overlook III's faults if he's not hardcore RPG fan. I know quite some people who started the series with III DS and loved it. So no, I can't see why he wouldn't be able to.

I'll repeat, take III. Don't like it? Try a more modern part of the series. But try this one first while you're not spoilt yet by later games of the series. Just realize that if you like III, it can only get better if you continue from III on.

If you want III, then get III. Don't listen to those who say "get FF nuberthis first". If you play later games in the series first, chance is you'll never be able to appreciate III. I happen to love III, after IX it's my favourite in the series. So I say, get III. You don't like it? No problem, maybe old-school just isn't your thing. But don't immediatly think FF games are not for you. If III failed to impress you, then still give IV DS a shot, for that is, regardless of how much I love III, a technically more modern and better game.

So yes, give III a chance. If you like it, then proceed with the other games in the series, IV DS being the most logical one to take after III DS. If it is released by the time you've finished/stopped playingIII DS, of course.

And wait with playing VI, VII and X till the last. They are horribly overrated games not half as good as people claim them to be. They have quality, yeah, but play the others first. Then you'll have a better view of the series and you will be able to play those 3 games with enough experience to see them like they trully are: average or good but nothing super special that puts them above all others. They are just plain normal entries in the series that did nothing special.
