Pilotwings

An often overlooked SNES launch title, it shows off lots of the console's mode-7 rotation ability with the ground rotating around as you jet pack ride or sky dive and try to hit targets. It also features flying a plane and a helicopter with a story mode that makes you feel like you're really gonna wind up with a license after completing the game. An early physics-based game, it was a head of it's time and made me really, really want a jetpack in real life !!

Super Mario World

Take the same old, winning, Mario formula and add 16 bit art and sprites, mode-7 sprite rotation, charming sound, lots of levels and secrets, Yoshi, lots of Koopas, world-like level select, and you have the game that gave the Super Nintendo a head start in it's launch titles.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

At the time, it was the best game I ever played. Cheerful animation, special effects (intro rain for example), charming sound, open-world exploration, puzzles, secrets, and saving made this the only game I needed for a long time.

Mortal Kombat

Who can forget the hard-hitting, social, stylish, tight-controlling Mortal Kombat series. The Genesis version was considered superior because the blood was replaced with sweat? I felt the SNES version had better detail and was underrated.

Final Fantasy VI

I never had the pleasure of playing Final Fantasy games on the SNES, although I love the series from the first to the latest. FF games are filled with moving music, open exploration, state of the art turn based play, anime art, and heartwarming stories. I often heard my friends, as a young teen brag about these on the SNES, especially noting the music.. but I only had a Genesis at the time, and didn't, yet, have the patience to get far in an RPG.
